If you're not old enough to vote. do you wish you could?

I personally will never register to vote, I'm just going to keep my opinions to myself and not vote but that's just me, I wouldn't want to vote.

Why would you want to do that? Its YOUR government and it affects YOUR life, but not voting you're just allowing yourself to be dominated. Voting is one of the most important rights you have as a citizen, and I think its so sad when people take it for granted. Not everyone has that privilege.

Am I going to vote this year?
No, because my country is not holding an election, unless something unexpected happens. I will be old enough to vote next year, and frankly, I can't wait. I've been interested in politics from a relatively young age and I already know who I'm going to vote for. With any luck I'll be able to vote in the next General Election.

I sometimes find it quite annoying how some people won't vote, because it's something I feel passionate about. Britain has an appalling turn-out, which I find really sad. Voting is a right people have fought and died for, and one of the few ways in which we can make our voices heard. Elections don't happen every day, so the least we can do is turn up and vote when we're asked. Democracy is pointless when you only have a mandate from half of the people.

Because one vote doesn't make a difference, and people are always going to try and influence you into making you believe in what they believe, and if you simply don't vote or say you're not interested in doing so, then they will leave you alone.

And I know not everybody has that privilege but it's also my right if I want to vote or not. And right now voting isn't my thing.

Yes that's true. But everybody has their own opinions and beliefs, and freedom of speech. Your believe in voting and I respect that because that's your choice, and you're respecting my belief because you're making it seem like it such a horrible think but I have my own ideas and opinions and everybody deserves to have those be respected.

I'm not disrespecting your beliefs, but this is a discussion forum, and when I disagree with something I do just that- discuss it. If you're not comfortable with discussing what you believe I can respect that and stop replying to you if you like.

No I'm comfortable with it.
And one of the other reasons why I wouldn't want to vote, is because I'm not going to be here in this country for too long, I'm going to go study in Europe and probably leave there for some time and come back later on, and I don't see the point of voting when I'm not going to be there, if that makes sense.

Well, honestly I don't think that makes sense at all. Decisions we make now effect the future. Look at how the decisions we made in the past about oil are effecting our future now. Just because you're leaving doesn't mean everything will run smoothly while you're gone, ya know?

That's very true. I guess in many ways I'm scared to vote, because it's like "What if this isn't the right thing" even if it seems completely like the best thing ever. But you can never be too sure of that. But it's also in a way contradicting myself, I'm just a very complicated person.

I think I'll probably be nervous too when I can vote. All you can do is research your topic and make the best informed decision you can based on what you believe. And sure, you'll probably change your mind a few times on what the "best" thing is on some issues, but thats just part of maturing and learning.

I guess it's like you vote and later you find out it wasn't the best choice it's like a bummer I suppose. And I don't want that, but nobody can be right about everything you know. I guess I'm just unsure of myself about voting and that's why I wouldn't want to vote. Like you said we all change out minds so maybe later on I will you know.
