So, you may be wondering why this is in this forum, and not music...

Well, Eurovision is all polotics. And I think that last night proved that.

England had an amazing singer, and came last. Spain was shit (Although I like them) and they got a lot of points.

So, lets discuss Eurovision, how political is it, why it's so political, and all that mumbo jumbo =]

Eurovision is hilarious every year. Everyone hates the United Kingdom so we get no votes. We'd win if we could vote for our own country. Sad

I don't really understand politics. In fact, I don't understand politics at all but it wasn't all politics that influenced the votes. I mean, sure, lots of countries voted for the ones near them - take a look at the bloody northern countries, freakin' Norway and Iceland all best-friendy and stuff (XD) - but Russia picked a hot male lead singer and the majority of people who watch Eurovision are women. That's why I voted for Russia. XD

Greece and Ukraine came second and third because of, well, the boobs and the lack of clothing their singers had. Britain thinks it can win Eurovision with talent alone.

Uh.... no. XD

Don't worry, everyone knows Eurovision is a joke. Cute

Generally immigrants vote for their native country. That adds up a lot when you have a couple million emigrants. And no-one's crazy enough to emigrate from the UK.
That's the political side of Eurovision, then of course comes the lack of clothing element.
Iceland is technically part of Norway. It's administrated by Norway or something like that.

haha yes I do agree. The countries from the east gave their points to the countries which are close by and stuff.
But well, my country didn't even sing a song there. Probably better this way.

Everyone knows it's political, but it's a bit annoying because it is a music contest and the good bands don't win if they don't have friends in other countries.

Like the UK wasn't nearly as bad as Latvia or Spain but didn't get votes because only Ireland votes for us. Rolling Eyes

I personally thought Israel should have won. Or maybe Finland.

First of, it was the UK not England - either include us in the UK or give us our independence, preferably the latter, but there's already a topic for that debate

It's worse for Britain because mainland Europe are submitting their best and we tend to lower our standards to be just as cheesy and naft as them. We should go back to submitting credible musicians - if you look at the competition through the years it tends to be the already established bands/artists that win. If they're already well known, especially with number ones then their more likely to overcome all the political bullshit

Yeah. It's always going to be political though.
And this year, UK had Andy Abraham. Fucking awesome singer.
So we raised our standards this year.
And we did damn well.
But polotics made us come last

Yeah, he was much better than last years.

But the thing is, you expect it with Eurovision. Spain was pretty awful but no matter what Portugal always votes for them. No matter how good the UK will be, politics means they'll never get points.

No, not really. Most countries send their shitty singers too. No-one really cares about the Eurovision.

It's not politics or diplomacy, it's immigration and ethnic minorities. Really. No-one hates Britain.
[Okay maybe some people do, but they don't usually want to get back at Brits by not voting them in the contest. There are better ways of expressing your hate towards a whole nation. Cute]

I don't think that Eurovision should be scrapped, but I think that the countries that do not participate should vote for the country that they thought was best, not their neighboring country (unless they thought that they were good). That's all it is nowadays, though. People voting for neighboring countries.

I liked Spain's performance. [/Spaniard] If you understood it, it was actually pretty funny, most of it was politics but there were some funny sayings. I absolutely hate it when countries vote for their neighbors, that's why it's so predictable when it comes to who gets the 12 points.

I don't watch Eurovision anymore.
Its ridiculous now.
They might as well stop the singing and ask the countries to vote for their favourite countries.

I don't see why the UK don't split up during Eurovision. If we had England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland and possibly Cornwall [As they want to be their own home country] then we could vote for each other like the Eastern Bloc countries xD Fair is fair.

I don't get why everyone hates us anyway xD We help you out with wars and stuff, but you end up hating us in the song contest xDD gtfo then, next time you have a natural disaster or war, help your self then tyvfm.

You have to take it into account that, countries that are next to each other and neighbour each other are more likely to have similar tastes in music because of their culture and style as countries. For example, I read something about it which said that two of the countries that always give each other maximum points actually share music charts, so their music tastes are bound to be very similar. I don't agree with the countries always voting for each other by a long shot, but that might give some explanation as to why the public voters in these countries vote for neighbouring countries.
