This is hard to just say and do.

It's true that sometimes a little smack can prove a point, but parents take it too far... spankings, wrist pulling, slapping across the face, hitting hard... oh, yeah. It's all been done. In fact it's all been done to me, as a punishment, not just for joy. Once my dad was angry so he slapped me, across the face. He missed, and dug his fingers into my lip, and I started bleeding. None of that would have happened if it weren't proper to smack a child when they've done something 'wrong'.

Is it right? Of course not. No child has done something bad enough to deserve being put through pain.

But I do beieve that a small smack on the hand for an infant can prove a point, since they don't understand the meaning behind 'right' and 'wrong' yet. If you smack them once, they'll understand that if they do something like that, it causes them pain. When they grow older, they don't need to be hit, they'll already understand.

But once the child is older than 4 or 5... it should be illegal to smack them. In my opinion.

New Zealand would be the country to pass that law.
I for one am not for phisical punishment, but I'm totally against it being outlawed That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of!

Does the goverment have nothing better to do then to chain their citizen by laws that are strict but meant to be rewarding?

It's a parent's own decision on how to disiplin their child and the goverment should have no say in it whatso ever.

Driving laws, yes
Gun laws, yes
Tax laws, yes
Spanking your kids?
No.

Nah, I don't think that law should be passed.
My parents smacked me when I was younger, and it never did me any harm! I think maybe if parents are too soft with their kids, the kids can grow up to be disobedient, thinking that they can get away with anything...

there's a big difference between disciplining kids, and actually harming them.

I wasn't hit or spanked until after I was six. My mother was physically abused as a kid and when her and my dad were still together and everything was still stable, she refused to spank or hit me. Maybe a light smack on the wrist here and there, but not spanking. Then when I was 7 spankings started and beatings too from my mom and you know what? That year of beat was enough for me to be turned off from spanking.

Spanking with an open hand on the childs backside I think is fine, but spanking with a 2X4 of wood or a cribbage board, not so much.

I definitely think that spanking should be kept legal, but I think there shold be certain restictions to spanking.

I have nothing again spanking.
If with extreme force, and intention to do more than a slight sharp smack, then, obviously not allowed.
But obviously children need to be punished with a smack sometimes, so. File

This was probably just my stupidity, but I'll go on, anyway. It's just my experience with hitting.

I am sometimes hit. When I was little, I used to hit myself when my mom never hit me for something I did wrong. I've almost grown out of that, though. She also intimdated me so bad. Whenever she'd yell at me and run after me, I thought she was going to hit me. That's exactly what hitting did for me.

Again, it was probably just my stupidity.

Like hell it shouldn't be outlawed.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Emotional and physical abuse is the worst thing you can do to a child. That can affect them a lot. And I'm speaking from personal experience. It's not a weight that you wanna put on your child. There are other forms of punishment to inform your kids that what they did was wrong. What the fuck. I can't fathoam how most of you are actually FOR this. Even if it's just smacking and not full on beating up. It'r wrong. We're not animals here. Force isn't necessary.

It's not only physical, it's mental. Some of you are saying that no harm came from it. You don't know how other people can feel about it. A smack can lead to so much more.

It's fucking TERREFYING for a kid.

I think that law should freaking... be put to use all over the world.
