Lady Jane Grey was a Tudor, she was the daughter of Frances Grey, who was daughter of Charles Brandon [duke of suffolk] and Mary Tudor [Henry VIII's sister]

Tragic.:
As for the Tudors, I've always had a large interest in English history, especially the Tudor family. I've been meaning to read more books on them, but I can never get my hands on decent ones; ones that keep my interest. As of late, I've been sucked in by the TV show, the Tudors, which is based off the royal family and their problems/accomplishments.

If Henry VIII was anything like he was/is in the TV show, he's a dick.
Shifty

No he really wasn't like that in real life.
Add about two hundred pounds.
Though Charles Brandon had four marriages [the last one being to someone he originally promised to his son, who died at around fifteen/sixteen] he wasn't that much of a manwhore as portrayed in the Tudors

I am currently studying them for a project and theres so much depth to this royal line, I have no idea where to start.

The show 'The Tudors' disappoints me however as alot of it is not factual

Yes historical inaccuracies really really bug me. That's why I only followed the first season because I knew a lot of it was bull and that once they did the whole Henry/Anne Boleyn romance it would be crap.

That's why I respect Philippa Gregory as a writer, she is really amazing, but the historical inaccuries in her books about the Tudor era just bug the crap out of me. Especially when they make those books into movies. The Other Boleyn Girl didn't even follow the book! Mad

Well, Henry was pretty hot when he was younger; but as he got older... And as he managed to get more wives, he became.... Well old and unhealthy.

What makes me almost laugh about Henry's whole health situation - especially his obesity - and how it was most likely the cause of his fifth wife's (Kathryn Howard) unloyalty is that back in those days, to be fat was a sign of wealth. Although, not in woman.

However, I suppose that Henry's case was just getting to the stage of being utterly repulsive.

Katherine Howard was a whore before Henry VIII married her. He was just to blind to see it!!

Oh yeah, and I hated how she portrayed Anne, the book was really well written, but Anne's character was just so off it bugged me, but I did like the book, no matter how inaccurate it was, it was still a good read.

I truly believed Anne and Henry genuinely loved one another, it was only the pressure for him to have a male heir that he pushed her aside, I love Anne Boleyn, she is probably my most beloved woman from the 16th century, I love reading anything with her in it, or about her, I always feel so attuned to it.

Yeah. I liked the book but it was so false and inaccurate that it bugged me a bit.

I really disliked the movie. The way they portrayed Anne was awful. That and it was even more inaccurate than the book which at least carried itself well.

The Boleyn Inheritance on the other hand [the next book] is amazing.

I haven't watched the Other Boleyn girl. I'm one of the sad people that refuses to watch an English history film when it's portrayed by American actors. Call me sad but it cheese me off.

The Bolyen Inheritance is really good though. So is the Virgin's Lover - it's about Elizabeth and Robert Dudley's love affair. The Queen's Fool is also a good read. That one's about Mary Tudor instead. Made me feel sorry for the poor woman in the end. Sad

Ask me anything. I love the Tudors. It's the only period of my country's history I am obsessed with to be honest. Smile

Well, about how the movies are all different, they have to appeal to everyone, not just history buffs, or lovers of King Henry. So, i guess to make it more interesting, this is including the book, they portrayed anne the way they did

That's very true.
At the end of the day, no one is going to know exactly what these people were like, so they way Anne in particular is portrayed will always conflict with everybody's personal views.

I read a book on Elizabeth I, and I thought it was fascinating.

I love the time period, and the way everything worked.

I love the Tudors, especially Elizabeth. Their whole family was so screwed up, six wives and three children and a few bastards, if I'm not mistaken. It's like the 16th century version of reality TV. Only with more beheadings.
