Comparing Sweden to USA really makes no sense, because the two countries are nothing alike.
I'm kinda clueless on this,
but don't they have the same basic system of laws?

And when it comes to the crimerate, talking about 9/11 especially, Sweden has never had anything like that going on.
Sweden isn't close to being as bad as USA when it comes to crimes and terrorism. Hey, I don't even know if I've heard about there being any real terrorism going on in Sweden for atleast five years or so... |

No-one thought terrorist attacks could happen in Madrid or London until they did.

Comparing your attitude about the possibility of terrorism and the attitude of pre-9/11 America makes perfect sense. |

Yes we have laws, and human rights, but what if we're just told this to keep everyone happy and believing they have control? Honestly, this stuff shits me up more than any horror film. |

That's not what I said. I said most countries already had "told us". These aren't new policies in most countries. |

Laws are put in place to keep people and countries safe and in order.
I'm sure the gov. wouldn't have done this if they didn't see it fit. |

And to be honest it's almost insulting for you to say your country has no freedom. When you live under a communist dictatorship in Cuba, or Saudi Arabia and have no freedom of speech or religion, then we'll talk. When you live in Sudan and your government supports genocides aimed at you, then you'll have no freedom. The fact that you're able to criticize your government and speak out against legislation shows that you do have freedom.
I don't think it is insulting to say that her country doesn't have freedom. Maybe it is not the truth cuz like you said, it is no communist country. Yet, just because you live in a democracy doesn't necessary mean you have a lot of freedorm or rights or any other form of political participation.
Because, even if it were the Sweden people who elected the government, the politicans make the decisions, not the Sweden people. And like we all do know, politicans aren't always honest (they are barely honest..). They promise things they can't keep in the end just so they get elected.
Sweden is also a member of the European Union which means it makes things complicater. I don't exactly know how politic works in Sweden so I just can say an example from Austria.
If we decide on laws here, the European Union is allowed to make some vetos or anything else. They can force a country to make a new law, even if many politicans are against it and the public has no rights to vote on that.
So I can understand if FrankieMonster is saying that her country sucks and that she feels like there is no freedom cuz if there were real freedom, the public would have the right to vote on nearly everything. |

It got broken into, & the domes were ripped so that they weren't all puffed up, just because of some dickheads thinking that the whole invasion of privacy thing wasn't kool.
I'm for it; I don't want terrorism in my country, thanks! |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 294 | September 26th, 2008 at 05:48pm You (the persons who are not from Sweden) all need to understand that yes, we elected this party who are now in charge, but they didn't quite inform the Swedish people properly about the FRA-law. They just threw the law at us, and many were outrageous about this, because it is intruding on our privacy. Human rights, yeah?
It's pure stupidity that our government should be able to listen and read everything we say or do and store it on a computer base, because, for crying out loud, this is Sweden! Sweden, people! We are one of the most neutral countries in the world, no one wants us any harm, and we feel as if they are just doing this because they can. Of course there are bigger problems in the world, but for Sweden, this is huge. |
