| Bells. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 1071 | Lyzzla: Hmm, that's a good point. Well, because you are inflicting pain and unhappiness to the other person, it would be bad. However, there are some certain bad things that aren't actually 'bad'. For example, being imprisoned. You're unhappy and you are, likely, in pain, but you need to be in prison to become a better person. It's like revenge... You need to learn your lesson. I'm not saying revenge is 'good'. I'm just saying it brings out the good. |
| Lyzzla Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 320 | Dasha: I disagree that it's like revenge. I don't think it has a thing to do with revenge. You're put in prison as a ounishment, not as compensation to the person you wronged. It's to teach you a lesson...and most times it doesn't work. I know someone who's been to jail 3 times, once for 5 years, and he still steals. Goiod and bad is completely opinion based in this sense though, so I can't nessecarily say you're wrong. |
| jacky jules. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1302 | I agree with what you said about good and bad being opinion based. I just want to know where these opinions came from at the beginning... |
| Gravity Thrill Fanfic Fanatic Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 1591 | I try not to live by what is good and what is bad. The line between the two is so thin, and peoples opinions on what is good and what is bad will differ. I try not to make my decisions on good and bad, I go with what I want to do and what I consider that right action for the moment. Whether people consider that action good or bad is entirely up to them ... |

| Coldwind4 Cliché Catastrophe Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 334 | I've always found this topic confusing. It's like...there really is no way to decide it...and somebody could somehow justify something that *I* think is terrible. But at that, I don't think people should going around killing people. It's bad...but at the same time you can decide that it's bad... Am I even making sense??? I really doubt it. *Slams confused head against wall.* I probably just came across as a complete moron. |
| oreo cookie. Ink Slinger Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 879 | It's basically just an opinion. One that has been made into law. Mind you, isn't all law just an opinion? |
| C_annibal Ink Slinger Age: 20 Gender: Female Posts: 786 | Good and bad is what we make it. We learn what is right and what is wrong from our parents, teachers, people we meet as we grow, even television. But as we get older we are left to decide what we think is right or wrong based on what we have learned, we decide by the way we feel, what we really have been taught. And our decisions maybe different to others, but they are our opinions, who is to say what is really wrong and what is really wrong, that's another person's opinion. |
| jacky jules. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1302 | Lyzzla: Who taught them? |
| Lyzzla Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 320 | Valo Ink.: It's human instinct to want power. To maintain power you have to come up with rules for people to follow. They used their imagination once, and thingssnowballed from there. We've always had imaginations...we've just lacked intelligence...we still do. |
| acid martyr Amateur Author Age: 13 Gender: Female Posts: 259 | I think when we were young, we were more observant than we think. And.. common sense. I mean, it's really rather easy to know that murdering some random, innocent person is bad.. *cough* ![]() |
| Lyzzla Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 320 | acid martyr: We've been prgrammed to think like that. If you were locked in a room alone for the first 10 years of your life with no contact with humans what-so-ever...what exactly do you think you would know? I think you might end up going on a killing spree. Just sayin. Common sense is programmed into us as we're little...it's a learned trait. It doesn't just come with the package. |
| jacky jules. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1302 | I agree with Lyzzla. People who are kept away from humans for ages turn strange. |
| Mistress_Gigi Writer's Block Age: 18 Gender: Female Posts: 11 | I think it all has to do with culture. Each culture has their views on what's right and wrong. For instence, in our culture (North American/American/Canadian) Polygym is wrong, but in others it's seen as a perfectly respectable way to live. Whatever the culture values (moral or otherwise) help to determine what, in that society, is right and wrong. So it really is all a matter of opinion, because we all have different views on the subject from person to person, country to country and culture to culture. I also agree with Lyzza as well, being kept away from the population, isolated and unable to learn for yourself what that particular society views as wrong and right, those isolated wouldn't have a clue as to what those views were. They might not know that stealing is wrong, that slashing tires is wrong, that breaking into a home because they ahve nowhere's to go is also wrong. (Kind of like Genie, if anyone remembers who she was). Anywho that's my little blurb ^_^ |
| jacky jules. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1302 | Mistress_Gigi:I liked your blurb. It all made a lot of sense. |
| Killing Loneliness Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 369 | Well, it's obvious that a lot of people believe it's the way you're raised or it's because of your culture...but I reckon it's because of your conscience/instinct. Look at it this way - your brother or sister - or even parents - may have different views to you. And you're living under the same household. Your brother may think beating up another kid is fine, but you hate fights. You mother may think that alcohol is bad, but you might think it's totally alright. Anyway, conclusion time - I think it's because of our personality. Our gut instinct. Sorry for bashing all your theories - that's just what I like to think =] |
| Shattered Music Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 172 | Good and bad, something I try to stay away from. It is all a matter of opinion really and that is why it is so unaffective sometimes. Because opinions differ. I would like to say that I try to balance on that VERY thin line seperating the two, but with some things I lean to one side and with others, to the opposite side. It is human and human nature is what fuels all this. But then again, the only reason I can somewhat balance on that line is because I lack in certain aspects of my personality. |
| Mannequin. Queen Cliché Catastrophe Age: 19 Gender: Female Posts: 378 | I have a strong belief in what is right and wrong. But I don't want to get into a fight about it. =] I just know because... It's instinct. |
| sunshines Fanfic Fanatic Age: 25 Gender: Male Posts: 2841 | I agree with Lyzzia. Humans separation does disturb our sense of wrong and right. However, I think our sense of wrong and right is based on our experiences of people around us. If someone doesn't like the way we behave we get punished and when we do something to their approval we get a reward. I think that ultimately gives us a basis of right and wrong as a child. Then when we get older, depending on how temperament, we will analyse this right and wrong lessons and base our opinions from them. If we have a naturally sweet disposition we may tend to take these lessons in a positive view and use them to the benefit of others, however if we're aggressive we'll tend to be more selfish with our morals or such. Well, that's what I'm guessing however this is prone to speculation. |
| bloody_black_rose Writer's Block Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 11 | I completely agree with sunshines. And then I add this For every thing that is good there is something equaly as bad out there and waiting. |
