| zero; Fanfic Fanatic Age: 12 Gender: Female Posts: 1371 | I really cannot afford anything that has something to do with a dollar sign, internet and a credit card. ![]() For, I guess. But I barely download illegaly now. I buy the CDs instead, but I don't get mush of a selection here since most of the bands I listen to are foreign, not from here. |
| kafka. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 3001 | The Zero:ITunes doesn't even work here. ![]() But I've found this amazing store with manymanymany CDs at affordable prices. Sometimes I download something because I don't have the patience to wait until the CD gets released here and then when it does I buy the CD and delete the song from my computer. |
| Lies for a Liar Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 1165 | ChemicallyImbalanced: As far as I'm aware LimeWire only makes money through people paying to download LimeWire Pro, which is advertised a lot on the normal LimeWire (but it's pointless because you just search for LimeWire Pro and download it illegally from the regular LimeWire for free). So if you pay for that then it's Limewire doing the job of stealing music (or videos & programs) and making profit from it, which is pretty disrespectful. LimeWire makes my computer slow anyway, I don't use it most of the time. |
| disastrous. Cliché Catastrophe Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 410 | The only time I download music is to see if the artist's songs are to my liking. If they are, I'll eventually get to buying the CD. |
| jacky jules. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1302 | ^^ Yeah, I do that too. If I like a lot of the songs I've downloaded, I'll go out and buy the album. |
| desperate endeavor. Cliché Catastrophe Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 671 | I've downloaded about ten songs illegally, using limewire. I stopped and deleted the songs and limewire, and went out and actually bought them. Honestly, I think that buying the CD is better than downloading it- Even off of iTunes. If your computer crashes, you've lost your music. It's happened to me a few times, and it can be really frustrating. So, I am not for it. |
| Fallen From Grace <33 Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 7800 | ninety too.: I agree. But just so you know, you can back up the songs on your iTunes on a CD. ![]() |
| the endless. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 2623 | Out of curiosity, what do you guys think of illegaly downloading movies or watching them online? Actors don't get paid per download or purchase, the movie company generally buys rights to it. The companies are huge, and the money for one movie definitely wouldn't matter to them. Just wondering. ![]() |
| Lady_Of_Stories89 Amateur Author Age: 19 Gender: Female Posts: 122 | I used to have limewire untill my computer froze because if it. I have no problem downloading songs for free weather it be off myspace or limewire or any site i can find that offers free downloads, |
| Lies for a Liar Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 1165 | Nala.:That's a good point, although it doesn't really work for me 'cause I went to America with my friends and left about £100 worth of CDs on a bus. So if my computer crashes I'm screwed. I had most of those CDs copied onto my computer but for the ones I didn't I had to go and download all the songs in order to keep the music in one way or another. I prefer CDs waaay over downloads because I can play them on my CD player, which has amazing sound. I message bands with iTunes-esq CDs out to see if I can buy a hard copy of them 'cause I like them better. Obvs I have to like a band quite a lot to do that. |
| kafka. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 3001 | the endless.: Yes but the directors&production crew get paid per purchase/download. And they're the ones doing all the work, not the actors. And songs just sound better on cd/vinyl than in digital format. |
| Freddie Mercury. Grammar Guru Age: 68 Gender: Male Posts: 5551 | I don't think that My Chemical Romance needs my dollar from buying each song of bigpond, or buying the cd ![]() I download music, and I don't see what the big deal is. I mean, as long as the kids keep going to shows and actually listening to the music, the band is making their money and making their impact. |
| Fallen From Grace <33 Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 7800 | Freddie Mercury.: I don't think it's a matter of the band making money since they'll make lots of money off shows and stuff but for smaller bands it will make a difference. And the band at all the people that work with them still deserve the money for their efforts so I think generally if someone want a song so badly they should pay for it. |
| Laces For Hanging. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 1243 | I do occaisionally download songs illegally off of LimeWire, but I never really get a chance to think about how it affects the artists. From their point of view, I realise that they'd much rather that we buy the CD or listen to the songs they have on MySpace, but me, being one who does download the music illegally, I see my own point too. It's free. And that's enough for me to do it, no matter the consequence to the artist. But now I only use LimeWire for songs that I can't get anywhere else, and can't buy off iTunes because I'm slightly skint. |
| I'mNotListening Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 161 | I'm for downloading songs illegally because I do it. I'm very biased. |
| ChemicallyImbalanced Wordsmith Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 10184 | I'mNotListening: Why do you do it? |
| Crookshanks Amateur Author Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 257 | I used LimeWire obsessively until it gave my computer a virus. We had to take it to get fixed, and the person fixing it told us that if you get caught using LimeWire, there's like a $6000 fine per song. So, yeah, I don't use it anymore. |
| I'mNotListening Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 161 | ChemicallyImbalanced: Because I think songs are way too overpriced on iTunes, and I can't buy every single CD I want. There's also the case that I don't even want the whole CD, I just want a certain song. There was this website I used to go to which had songs for 19 cents, but they had hardly any songs I wanted...and hence, me downloading illegally. It's like my last resort, though. |
| Fallen From Grace <33 Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 7800 | I'mNotListening: Just because you think they're overpriced doesn't mean it's your last resort not paying for them. If you just want one or two songs off an iTunes it's 79p. You could buy them if you were willing so I don't really think it justifies it. |
| Die Valkyrie Ink Slinger Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 765 | Fallen From Grace: I download on average about 3 albums per week. Sometimes I download around 10 in one night. I download my music from file sharing sites so I never download single songs. 3 albums for a week for a month would be about 180 $ mixed in with other monthly expenses such as bills, food and other groceries. Most people (myself included)can't afford that and no doubt I couldn't afford to spend 150 $ in one sitting. I download also because of the convenience. I do not have to use a credit card and deal with the bills or get in a car to waste gas and gas money to buy an album for my personal pleasure. The economy these days is going to shit for lack of a better term. Honestly I think illegal downloading is the last thing we should be worrying about. |
