I taught myself. Just get a book that tells you what you need to know and learn from that.
You can have lessons but either way is possible |

I think there's a book called beginners bass but I'm not sure of the title. The easiest thing is to go to your local music shop and ask about books for beginners. They'll probably be able to find you a decent one |

I taught myself bass, simply by looking up tabs on the internet. Now I can make basslines for my band and play bass quite well. 
It's easy to play but it's a great instrument to play. |
