this will be my fourth year playing. Although I won't be playing in band for my freshman year. (I need to get in two years of French, therefore I'm taking French 2)

Even though the director has actually called my house to try & talk me into doing it. He'll just have to wait until next year.

My mom usually buys "Rico" brand size 3 reeds for me.

giving up band for french????? ick!!!!
maybe you could give up lunch instead. then you could eat your lunch in the classes with the most annoying techers and they can't stop you cuz you'll say you're about to faint because you have band and french instead of lunch.

People think I'm crazy for taking eight classes as a senior (even crazier because one of them is band), but I'm holding out for an awesome band tour. We're all kind of hoping and wishing for Italy, but our bassoon player was convinced we'd go to Egypt (as in, he built pyramids on the beach during last year's band tour). Oh well. At least there will only be four clarinet pl-

Wait. That's bad. There must be more of us!! Can some of you transfer to my school so we can beat up the flutes? Please?

I've played the clarinet for about 6/7 years. I'm doing my grade eight next year, and I love playing it. Smile

I've been playing for about 8 or 9 years now.

I recently just got a new Selmer Henri Paris Prologue II after my Omega was stolen. Sad

As for reeds I use Mitchell Lurie Premium 3 1/2. I seriously can't stand Vandoren (nothing against those of you who use them). They make my sound really hollow. MLPs give me a really rich, warm tone. I think it really just depends on your own personal set-up though.

Is started clarinet when I started with band class, grade 7, and I love it. I play the music for 1st, and can hit all the notes and everything. Mine is a Yamaha, and I use 3 1/2 reeds (I don't know what brand because I buy them individually from my band teacher).

Hey I have a question, how can you ward off mouth fatuige after playing for so long? Because I can only play for about 30-50 mins before my mouth literally starts tingling and air gushes out the sides, and I can't control it any more. My band teacher is clueless, and the other clarinets aren't much help.

i've never heard of MLP reeds. maybe i'll try them out sometime and see how they compare to vandoren.

to make your mouth stop fatiguing, you pretty much have to marathon practice. the more often and longer you play, the stronger your facial muscles will get. then you won't have prolems with fatigue and air leaks.

^^^^^ go for the Vandorens!!! they're good if you get on their good side and don't piss them off. they're kind of bratty reeds, but if you get good ones (by chance, not every one is good and you can't control it), you can be a clarinetting wonder.

so band camp was last week (august 18-22) and i obviously brought my clarinet. it was in its case on the bleachers while i was off doing drum major things, and got so hot that if you touched the clasps on the case you'd get burned. after five days of this, i finally got to play on the 5th day, and the wooden finish had been ruined by the heat.
the wood was dehydrated, so i put Olive Oil on it and rubbed it in with a tissue and Qtip for under the keys. it worked, and after two days of soaking in (outside the case!!), the clarinet felt healthier. so i did it again, and it's still soaking in. if you want to try it, here are the rules:
1. wood clarinets only!!plastic doesn't need it.
2. use vegetable based oil. i used olive oil, but i suppose you can use vegetable oil if you want. wood will soak up vegetable stuff, not so much mineral oil.
3. keep it out of the case while drying. and make sure no one touches it. that would get icky.
4. stay away from getting oil on the keys.
5. don't mess with the little wires under some of the metal shafts. they're better not tampered with.
6. don't do this more than two times or it will stop soaking it in. if it fills the wood, it's good, so stop. if you make the mistake of using more that it can absorb, just wipe it off and don't tell people about it.
7. set up the clarinet before you do this. otherwise, you'll have oily corks and everything will be chaos.

try it if you like. i just love sharing clarinet tidbits. and i think i become more band geeky every day.

clarinet=) yay=) ive only been in band since the 6th grade (now 8th) and ive played clarinet..of course. but all the other clarinet players that were in band had been playing for years and i was almost immediately at first chair. my clarinet gift x33 i play a selmer signet B flat all-wood clarinet, if we are getting technical. terribly old and i have to have my intructor tighten every screw about once a week, and i have to fix up the pads often, and im sure my parents are just begging me to quit since thats all expensive like, but i love it too much. and i refuse to just get a new one, because this clarinet has a lot of history, having been in my family.....for a very long time, and we can leave it at that. the clarinet being as terribly old as it is, ...its very expensive. so i keep it in a ratty old selmer case just in case one of the hoodlums at my school gets any ideas. i use Vandoren size 3 or 3 1/2 reeds, depending on the music and what my instructor asks and all. and my clarinet's name is callie x33 hehe. clarinet OWNS. =)

I didn't get along with my teacher either.Rolling Eyes
So I gave up.Unsure
I still love the sound of the clarinet though, its just... beautiful In Love

I stopped playing clarinet this past year.
I played it for... five years.
I didn't really like it that much, but it wasn't torturous

this kid in my band accidentally drop-kicked his clarinet and it broke. he was throwing and catching it, and he missed catching it, so he tried to catch it with his foot, and ended up drop kicking it instead.
