| Skrillex. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 1171 | ^^^ Lots of people get away with wearing skinnies. It's unbelievable. ![]() The only difference in uniform when you become a 5th year is a different tie lmao. |
| Gravity Thrill Fanfic Fanatic Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 1591 | My school uniform is disgusting. It makes it look like everyone's drowning in a see of grey and white. The skirts are supposed to be one ridiculously high and they're supposed to go down past your knees. I role mine up (a long with most of the female student population) that way I can where it on my hips and it only goes about half way down my thigh. The jackets are big, thick, grey and shapeless with shoulder pads. They just go straight down. My one doesn't even fit me, my mum said I'd grow but I haven't grown in two years! The shirts are stupid too, they're so uncomfortable but my mum won't buy me new ones that aren't from the school shop ... and the jumpers are so thick and scratchy and disgusting. I absolutely hate my school uniform plus it's totally pointless. What job does it serve? Seriously though, there's no way to express yourself at all ... you can't dye your hair, you can't wear make up, no jewellry and the uniform ... it's just stupid. bla bla bla i am totally sick of all bloody rules. yuck. |
| Run to the Hills Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 133 | IF my school started doing that i'll be like "you mean i have to wear a skirt with an ugly colored sweater? eh i don't think so..." if my school did, i'll use the tie to choke myself. |
| theoldavrilrocks Writer's Block Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 49 | I don't think uniforms are bad at all. I had to wear them for the first 7 years of school, and it didn't kill me. I think people make bigger deals out of them then they are. You get use it, and if you don't, go to another school. lol And at my school there was no "bullying" or I'm better then you because of this or that. It probably wasn't just because of the uniforms, but becuase of it being really small and strict. Going to a public high school now, uniforms wouldn't stop people from thinking they were better then you... they would just give people more reasons to complain. |
| Merlin Writer's Block Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 68 | At my school, we have to wear shirt and tie, black and white. No skinnies, and it has to be plain black shoes. But I wear skinnies and converse anyway In sixth year you've got to wear a blazer, which is pretty stupid. You're not allowed to take it off in school, at all. It's got to be worn at all times. Uniforms aren't going to stop bullying though. Kids can tell if someone is a 'geek' or a 'goth/emo' with, or without, uniforms. |
| Freddie Mercury. Grammar Guru Age: 68 Gender: Male Posts: 5551 | At my school, we wear polo shirts and windcheaters, and we're supposed to wear plain black pants, but the teachers don't care if you're wearing jeans or anything. Next year though, we have to wear fully black shoes -goes to converse store to find fully black ones- ![]() But, from my observations, the teachers don't seem to care that most of the VCE kids don't wear uniform most of the time, and I'm doing year 11 next year, so that's okay |
| Guernica. Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 247 | I've had to wear a uniform in school all my life, and it doesn't really bother me much at all. In fact, I kinda like it. It makes life way easier for me. Instead of having to pick clothes out everyday I could just throw on the uniform. Besides, I think the shirts we have to wear are kinda cute. ![]() My school isn't really strict about them though as long as you behave. I mean, the girls get told to unroll their skirts sometimes, but that's only when they're ridiculously short. We're allowed to have skirts at four inches above the knee at the shortest, and I think that's pretty reasonable. And we have a variety of long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, skirts, pants, and sweaters so different types of weather aren't really a problem. So, yeah, uniforms for the win. ![]() |
| Procrastinator. Grammar Guru Age: 10 Gender: Female Posts: 5022 | Our uniform is a white polo-like top and a blue skirt... which is long. I don't have a problem with that but I like those mini skirts I see in animes. But anyway, I think they're appropriate. It's easier to identify students' schools if they wear their own uniforms. And uniforms really save me from stressing myself in choosing clothes to wear. Well, that's just my opinion. ![]() |
| Flightless Bird; Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 518 | I really don't have a proper viewpoint on uniforms, seeing as I'm schooled at home, but I used to go to private school (when I was little), and we wore uniforms. I'm kinda in the middle of the road about them. In my district, the school board says they're a precaution to stop bullying. ( I think their theory is that if everyone dresses the same, kids won't pick on other kids if their clothes are "cheaper" and stuff of that sort.) It doesn't help though. The kids who wear Abercrombie khakis and designer polos still pick on the kids who wear wal-mart brand clothing. It doesn't quite create the sense of equality that they're meant to cause. But other than that, I think they're grand ideas. =] |
| decigram Writer's Block Age: 13 Gender: - Posts: 26 | I agree with uniforms creating equality, and even though they sometimes take away creativity, I think it's easier to wear a uniform than regular clothes. The only thing is that at my school, the uniforms are incredibly ugly. It's khaki shorts and a blue, yellow, or white polo shirt. You can wear pants too, but the shirts have to have three buttons with two closed. The thing that bothers me the most is that I love skirts, but you can only wear them for religious reasons. I think that's close to discrimination.. if my religion dosn't require me to wear a skirt and I think they're comfortable, it's not right to say I can't wear one when other girls are allowed to. D: |
| Shattered Music Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 172 | Uniforms I find, are pointless. What do they do? Make you all look the same? It does not matter if you wear a uniform that is supposed to create "equality", people will still be the same people. They will still pick on the kids they don't like and find beneath them. They will still single out those who are different. They are just finding a way to make money since you have to buy the polo from the school. And a way to disguise these problems I would assume. So basically, I only see them as a way to take away individuality. At least for me. I can't wear my signiature hoodie, I can't wear my bracelets since they think it is some gang symbol. I can't wear my ties since they 'interfere with the ID'. They are telling me to stop being me. And I hate it. |
| Wednesday Addams Amateur Author Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 283 | My school's pretty strict with uniform. The teachers are currently on my back because I sometimes wear a hoodie to school, then take it off when I get in. I walk to school, and sometimes it's cold and it's raining and with my art folder, PE kit, school bag and oboe case I don't have any hands to hold an umbrella so I wear a hoodie. I mean, I don't wear it in school, just to school. I take it off when I get in. But the teachers want me to buy a school hockey jacket for forty quid as an alternative. But I refuse to pay forty quid for something I only wear for 20 minutes on a few days of the year... It's completely stupid. |
| Wednesday Addams Amateur Author Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 283 | Oh, and I have another little story. On my first day back my year head took me aside to talk to me about my 'goth appearance'. Now, my school has a strict uniform, and you're not allowed to alter your uniform or have unnatural hair colours or anything, so I'd say it's quite an achievement to still apparently come across that way. Basically she told me that the school doesn't like me looking this way. But since I'm not breaking any rules, I wear a little eyeliner (which I'm allowed to do) and my hair isn't technically breaking any regulations they can't do anything. She even started asking me all this stuff like "Are you happy? Is life good for you?". I was like... wtf. My school's just waiting for me to do something so they can expel me for being 'goth'... only thing is they can't find it yet. God help me when they do. Since I've got naturally very pale skin (English Rose complexion, anybody?) teachers are always telling me to take my foundation off... I don't even wear any!! I really am that pale!! And my hair is NATURALLY black. I've even considered dying it brown just to get the teachers off my back... It's gotten ridiculous now. |
| Disturbia Cliché Catastrophe Age: 87 Gender: Female Posts: 544 | I quite like my school uniform to be honest. We wear what's considered 'posh school clothes' due to us being a private school. I think uniform is a way of stopping bullying. [If you're all wearing the same clothes, no one can pick on you for wearing stuff from Oxfam, can they?] Yes, it discrimiates your individuality in the sense of not being able to wear your own clothes, but there are other ways of showing it at school. After all, school's a place to get an education, not a fashion show. |
| sunshines Fanfic Fanatic Age: 25 Gender: Male Posts: 2841 | We have school uniform, I go to an all girls Catholic school so go figure. Having always had a uniform, I don't find much a difference. I find it makes you feel equivalent to the other girls, because you can't get judged on what you're wearing but it means you get more judge on other things, such as your behaviour. Girls are scrutinizers for fault and are bitchy about it. It's not good thing in some respect, but I prefer to be judged on my behaviour than my looks. Disturbia: That is very true. ![]() |
| Aerin. Writer's Block Age: 18 Gender: Male Posts: 82 | I personally think Uniforms are a good thing, it starts showing you the concept of discipline and also represents your school in a better way on trips etc. |
| sunshines Fanfic Fanatic Age: 25 Gender: Male Posts: 2841 | ^^That depends if the students behaviour is exemplary. If not, sometimes you just disgrace the school. |
| Shattered Music Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 172 | Wednesday Addams: That is wrong in the worst way. They can not discriminate against one teenager for being themselves because they are pale? Or they are goth? I thought that 'higher authority' (which is a load of shit) aka the teachers, were not supposed to discriminate by labels? As for the makeup and hair, I am not sure they can actually do anything about it. Schools can not do anything about piercings and crap because it is the teenagers body so truthfully, you should be able to dye your hair and wear your makeup as you wish. |
| Pesticide. Cliché Catastrophe Age: 13 Gender: Female Posts: 567 | I really don't like uniforms, especially my school's one. I'm actually wearing it today, too. The teachers have decided to 'crack down' on the kids wearing clothes that aren't uniform next term. I don't see why jeans are inappropriate for schoolwear; to myself and many others, they are more comfortable and far warmer than flimsy nylon-blend pants and skirts. We're allowed to dye our hair, get piercings and wear makeup. Generally, anyway. One time I wore a ribbon around my head 'ninja-style' and my teacher made me take it off for assembly. It was navy blue anyway, which is one of our school colors. But ugh. I hate my school's uniform; even if I wore it day in, day out for four lots of ten weeks a year, shit would still happen. Even if I dressed exactly the same as the other girls, the ones who give me bullshit, I would still be copping it because I don't like what they do. They aren't equalizers, at least for me. |
| Wednesday Addams Amateur Author Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 283 | Shattered Music: I get called a goth every single day by the teachers. It's pretty stupid. It's getting to the point where I actually don't want to go to certain classes. But my mum's gonna go into school and yell at them about it, so it's all good My school has really vague rules about personal appearance. You're not allowed anything that's an 'extreme of fashion' and the staff reserve the right at all times to tell you your appearance is unacceptable. It sucks because you really can't do anything. |
