Rabbits

My dad decided it would be cool to populate our backyard with bunnies.
Over the past 2 years, I have had over 30 bunnies. We never sold any of them, which was our plan, and we only have 2 left.

This morning, my bunny give birth to three kits. But I have no idea how did that happen. I've got two bunnies, male and a female, they live in a huge house with a separation between them. It's wire cage, the separation of the bunnies is also wired piece of metal. [Okay, I'm not that good in describing things.] So it's likely that they don't live together, and I've never seen them mate before, but how did she get pregnant?
Is it possible for the both of them to mate even though they're separated? I'm just curious, really really curious.

^ How big is the gaps between the wire? I'm guessing it's like wire mesh, yeah? They might of been able to find a way.

I have a rabbit named Jimmy now, he's a lion head cross. We don't know what breed he is crossed with, though. He's black with little bits of grey, he's so adorable. He's really friendly and we've had him for about a month now and he's not bit any of us. He gets really nervous sometimes and his heart races, but he loves being picked up. When I feed him he always comes over and makes me stroke him. I love him so much.
