| Adam Lazzara. Member Age: 88 Gender: Female | but shouldn't animals get treated with the same respect as humans? we're not going exstinct. they are. |
| And Sing Member Age: 24 Gender: Female | Laboratory rats aren't going extinct...we breed them for that exact purpose. To be used as...'lab rats'. It's not like people are testing on siberian tigers or whatever. Also, if we're going to talk extinction...some would believe that the Y chromosome is on the way out, so human males are going to go extinct. |
| Elegant Rubble Member Age: 20 Gender: Female Points: 250 | Because there have been extensive studies on the brains of many species of animals - they just do not have the surface area or the complexetiy to have the cognitive ability to think in such terms Most of the times the animals feel nothing because we anaethatise them. We take every step to ensure that any possible suffering is miminal and most of the time they are just dandy. it is not cruel and besides the drugs will already have been through testing on cell lines to establish things like carcinogenicty, toxicity - if they fail these they are usually scrapped long before they reach the animal testing stage |
| chlorotin. Member Age: 16 Gender: Male Points: 100 | From what I`m getting, you`d rather have a human test a potentially dangerous product than an animal, correct? Lets say, hypothetically, that you have a very young child that had burnt a large division of skin, and you`d want for that skin to be replaced. Would you have second thoughts if you had learned after an amount of time that the experiments that led to that science involved animal testing? |
| Jewel Nicole Member Age: 19 Gender: Female Points: 100 | ^I wouldn't. |
| chlorotin. Member Age: 16 Gender: Male Points: 100 | Exactly. Because, a few lab animals is nothing in comparison to possibly millions of human lives, right? |
| Ghostless. Member Age: 14 Gender: Female Points: 100 | I saw an interesting billboard today it said: "Ever had leprosy? Thanks to animal testing you won't" or something along those lines. I think animal testing for medical reasons is okay. I'd rather we didn't have to test at all but since we do better them than us. However. Animal testing for cosmetics? No. Cosmetics aren't all that important. They're just used to keep people pretty. |
| flawed perfection;; Member Age: 15 Gender: Male Points: 100 | WHAT. |
| flawed perfection;; Member Age: 15 Gender: Male Points: 100 | Anyway, animals should be treated the same as humans. I'm against animal testing, specifically because I love animals. |
| And Sing Member Age: 24 Gender: Female | ^Yeah, I know. Strange, eh? But the Y Chrmosome in humans is getting shorter and shorter [over thousands of years btw. Other animals aren't the same as humans [because we're animal too] so we can't treat them the same. And you can't use the argument that you love animals as a reason for not testing on them. That's like saying I love chickens so much we shouldn't take their eggs and eat them. Ridiculous. |
| Josipa Admin Age: 25 Gender: Female Points: 3300 | You would rather let them test on your mom, brother or similar than a mice? |
| Dorian Gray Member Age: 17 Gender: Female Points: 100 | For me, it depends on what they're testing. I understand that medications really needs testing, so that will have to be done, but other things, like cosmetics, should not be tested on animals. And, the animals should be treated as humanely as possible and not caused more misery and pain than what's necessary. It doesn't feel 100% right in any way, but if it will help sick people, I can't object. (Unless they go nuts and make sharks super intelligent like in Deep Blue Sea.) ![]() |
| lordsc2 Member Age: 13 Gender: Female Points: 100 | Although animals help the scientific community progress whith expermints and all, the poor animal is suffering for our own gain. It would be convenient if there was a computer program that knows the skins reactions to different chemicals not only for us, for the animals. |
| lordsc2 Member Age: 13 Gender: Female Points: 100 | because all the cool kids smoke. ![]() Do you really think all cool kids smoke???? |
| lordsc2 Member Age: 13 Gender: Female Points: 100 | I agree. |
| And Sing Member Age: 24 Gender: Female | A computer program can only go so far, it is not biological tissue. |
| Adam Gontier. Member Age: 13 Gender: Female | Well, I'm okay with testing on animals. I'd feel really bad if a chemical or something harmed them, but I'd rather it be done on animals instead of people. Besides, as it has probably been stated before, we use animals for a lot of things. I'm a vegetarian, but I'm sure there are a lot more meat-eaters than vegs. Many animals that are bred for food, are for one sole purpose: to feed something else. When lab rats are bred to be tested with various things, they're pretty much undergoing the same thing. Not exactly, but there are some similarities. |
| Painter. Member Age: 88 Gender: Female Points: 100 | But if they were treated the same as people they'd have the same rights. Could you imagine cats voting in the presidential election? |
| gonsloog Member Age: 14 Gender: Female Points: 100 | Well I agree with testing medicine on animals, but don't really agree on testing cosmetics and stuff because they aren't really that useful. On the other hand I think that as long as the animals are treated in a kind and respectful way, then it's okay. Don't forget that you would have different views if it was someone you knew with a disease and needed a medicine urgently and they had to test that medicine on an animal. Also, for JETFIRE - 'Why do animals have rights? Simple. They were here first.' Technically we're animals so that doesn't really make any sense because we have rights too. |
| The Doctor. Member Age: 19 Gender: Female | They would have still voted for Obama since Palin shoots animals. ![]() Nobody on this thread has condoned animal testing for cosmetics so far so I'm safe to say we all agree on one thing. |
