I'm going back to ballet.
Started when I was 3, stopped when I was 13.
And I'm going to begin flamenco.

I'm starting contemporary class next week, and I've been searching, but haven't found an answer.
If someone could please tell me, what exactly do you learn in the class as a beginner?
Thanks.

That's probably because there are so many different types of 'contemporary' dance. It all depends on the teacher and what they teach you as well. It depends on your teacher's training, and what they believe 'contemporary' dance is. At my dance school, we call it lyrical. It's sort of like a mixture of jazz and ballet. It's all about putting emotion into your dancing, like telling a story with your body.

I wish I could be more helpful, but since I don't really know what their definition of contemporary is, I really can't tell much. Sorry. :arms:

This is my twelfth year of dance. I take ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and pointe. I sort of have a love/hate relationship with it. I love to dance. It helps release all this emotional energy, and at times, it's kind of fun. However, the only reason I've been dancing this long is because my mom has forced me to do it, even though she knows how I feel about it.

I only have about two more years of dance anyways, so I'll just tough it out. Like I said, I do enjoy it, but I think I would like to dance on my own terms, not my mother's.

Thank you.
They also call it lyrical, so I don't know if that helps.
But I made a mistake, I'm going into an intermediate class, not a beginner's class.

Well then.

I'm sort of in an intermediate class. It's Advanced One lyrical. I only had my first class a couple days ago. We did some stretching, and then we went through a pattern. Nothing too exciting. It will probably get harder though.

If you've taken ballet and jazz before, then it's kind of like a mixture of those two, as I mentioned before. It just has more extension involved. You want to keep stretching through your arms, and keep moving the whole time. It's hard to describe.

Okay, thanks. I just figured out that it starts October 1st in my town. 'Cause the stupid lady messed up my registration.
I've taken a month of ballet when I was like, 8.
Aha, I don't know what that has to do with anything though.
I've been stretching a lot, for two years actually, I hope that helps.

I danced ballet, jazz, and tap for eight years. It was actually really fun for a while.
And I tried pointe for a few months, but I gave up. It was too hard. :cheese:

I'm now taking a grade three Cecchetti class, on top of the five hours of dance I take on Wednesdays (:cheese:). It's actually quite a bit of fun, besides the fact that I have to do developes at a ninty degree angle in the middle of the floor.

Your leg has to be up at ninety degrees for everything now it seems. Gah! :twitch:

I'm really liking my ballet class! It is my first time doing ballet and I'm not to bad at it. I have only been to 1 of my jazz classes because of soccer but the one I went to was great.

I've been a dancer since I was about 3, lol. I can't not dance. My friends think it's pretty hystarical that I do choreographed dance, but then at dances I'm sooooooo all over the place and wild, you'd never guess :)
