Recently, I've Had This Idea...
Well For those of you that know anything about me, I'm Straight Edge.
(aka, I don't drink, do drugs, or have casual sex.)
Recently, I've been thinking in a very well... Ray Bradbury style.
What if (stick with me for a second) we lived in a world where the government realized that the reason that the world was so unstable was because everyone was smoking and drinking and doing stuff like that? What if they decided that they were going to put this bracelet like think on every single person alive that detected
A)smoke fumes
B) checked blood for unnecessary amounts of alcohol intake
and C) checked blood for any intakes of illegal drugs.
How would the world be different?
Would things improve or would things just be a lot more troublesome?
Recently, I've been thinking about writing a short story, taking place in the very drug influenced 80's or in current time or in the future where this action took place. The story would be from the point of view of a past alcohol abuser and pot addict and their outlook upon the world at that time. How they deal with it and maybe they might even find a way to change things depending on how I want the character to be.
Please tell me what you think of this idea.
Again, I have nothing against people who do the kind of stuff I don't. It's just not my style. It's all your choice how you are.
Love always,
Xkitkat

Thank you and I agree with you all. Not so much lucky for me but I have friends that have dwelled in that past of drugs and drinking so if I need any help with that stuff, they said they would help me.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I'd read it, but perhaps (in agreement with Sucker.Punch!) you should get another person's point of view on the subject, like an ex-pothead or an ex-alocholic so you're not completely off.
And I think it's good if you're only doing a limit on each. Since there really was a complete ban on alcohol in America in the 1920's called the Prohibition, and when the Depression hit, people were stressed and had no way to relieve said stress (their ways were taken away- gambling and drinking relaxed them and the government took them away). It caused huge uproar.

Sounds like an intresting idea.

Most people would die if they did that. It sounds very 1984, Clockwork Orange-esque. It does sound pretty good. I'd probably read it, although I don't think the right character would be portrayed in the right light. You yourself are a straight edge and so you don't really know a pot heads point of view. I just wouldn't delve too much into the main characters past if that's the route you decide to take. It could be a wonderful awesome short story... but it could also turn out really suckish. I'd just take it on the safe side.

I think it'd honestly start some kind of a war if they did that.
People would rebel against it and the jail systems would get clogged up, but I'd love to see how you planned it out.
Go for it.
