if i was brave i'd write a letter to the president.
Dear President Obama:
I am writing this letter with the hope that you will understand my concerns regarding abortion. I realize that you receive many letters similar to this throughout the week, but please recognize that I do not expect any laws to change, I simply want an explanation as to why this torture, otherwise known as abortion, has not been stopped.
The True Definition
First, I would like to examine some definitions, the primary one being abortion. The definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Before I reveal my first argument, I would like to analyze my next definition, which would be a cell. A cell alone is capable of interacting with other cells to perform all of the fundamental functions of life.
Now, think about the timeline of a pregnancy. The first thing that happens in a pregnancy is the conception. At the moment of conception, an embryo is already composed of two cells. These cells are known as the male sperm cell and the female egg cell. If a newly formed embryo is made up of two cells, then it most certainly is alive. For, if a single cell has life, it would be unreasonable to declare that two joined cells do not. But, let’s address the counterargument, which would be that no one knows when life begins. Even if no one knows when life begins, we do know that death is the end of life. Death without life is illogical and it would be absurd to believe that death without life even exists. Correct? How then do doctors abort unborn children if there is no life to abort? Because, we already stated that there cannot be death without life. And, even if an abortion was defined as being the termination of a pregnancy followed by the death of the embryo or fetus, that death was caused by that termination. So, isn’t abortion just a nice way of saying the murder of an unborn baby? And, although we say “unborn”, it does not mean nonexistent or not alive. Unborn simply means not yet born. Having that title does not make that fetus any less human than you and me. It still needs food, water, and protection just like us. It should have the right to life just like us. And since it is unborn and not nonliving, it can be murdered. Just like us.
Constitutional Rights and Statistics
I am sure you are aware that under the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, it is clearly stated that no cruel and unusual punishment shall be inflicted upon criminals. Yet we allow this form of cruel and unusual, not to mention fatal, punishment to be inflicted upon the most innocent beings. Perhaps you do not know of abortion methods. The most common technique, the suction procedure, involves vacuuming the fetus into a jar. The fetus is mercilessly torn apart in the process and the limbs are ripped from the midsection. This is a procedure that takes place roughly 3,220 times per day. That number is almost one and a half times the number of students that attended my high school last school year. And it is estimated that over a period of 32 years, from 1973-2005, 45 million abortions took place in the United States alone, which means that by 2010, approximately 50 million abortions will have occurred in our country. As hard as it is to fathom 50 million people, it is even harder to picture the effect abortion has worldwide. 42 million abortions are present each year throughout the world. If this number has stayed virtually constant, 1.47 billion unborn children have lost their lives since 1973. These numbers are growing rapidly and when calculated out, one abortion happens every 25 seconds. In the time it has taken to read this paragraph, about three abortions have come about. Three. And we mustn’t forget all of the illegal abortions that are not accounted for.
Why Blame the Innocent?
My final question for you is why? Why are helpless and faultless children allowed to suffer for our mistakes? Why is it that we blame the weak for our actions? The only reason that abortion should be allowed is in cases of rape and when the mother’s life is in danger. Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop explains, “In my thirty-six years in pediatric surgery I have never known of one instance where the child had to be aborted to save the mother's life.” So, according to a long-term professional, these cases are extremely rare. If the mother’s life was in grave danger, such as if she suffered from a fatal illness, the abortion would not save the woman’s life anyhow. Incest should not be an exception seeing as incest is not forced. When incest is forced, that is considered rape, but incest alone is not rape, therefore it is excluded from being an exception. Rape is an extremely traumatic event and I do not believe that a young girl or a woman should have to carry the baby to term if she does not trust that she can handle that responsibility. For all intensive purposes though, there are no other reasons for females having abortions. When teenagers get pregnant, they should have to take care of that baby and fulfill their duties as a parent. Abortion should not be the first choice. In all honesty, one of the most basic concepts to understand is that sometimes, the consequences of sexual intercourse include pregnancy. So, when people of any age have sexual intercourse, willingly I might add, they should by no means have an escape route so easy and accessible. The bottom line is, if people think that they are old enough and mature enough to have sexual intercourse, they should be old enough and mature enough to handle the consequences. As I wrote before, rape is forced and we cannot expect victims of rape to handle all of this seeing as it was not their choice to engage in sexual intercourse.
To conclude, I wrote this with the confidence that you will see abortion from a different viewpoint. Mr. President, please take action against this cruelty. It may seem like a useless waste of time to you, but change has to start somewhere, right? Just helping to raise awareness would be greatly appreciated. And Mr. President, please keep in mind the thankful smiles you will someday get from would-have-been-aborted children if you do something, anything, right now.
so that was my language arts assignent. to write about a cause i am concerned about. yup. it pretty much explains where i stand on the topic of abortion. i got most of my info from abort73.com (which is a great website for just learning about abortion)
so comments? any questions for me? feel free to message me or comment me. or whatever. but this one one piece of writing that i actually liked (coming from myself) so i thought i should post it here. thanks for reading.

Brilliant, as always, twin.
You know how I feel. Abortion as a birth control? No. If you think you're old enough to have sex, old enough to handle that, you are old enough to handle the consequences; including pregnancy.
However, if a girl is raped, she should have the choice. Always.

...my opinion is that obortion should remain legal....abortion does save some women from situations....what happens if they were raped?...its a situation they may not be able to cope with....yes it is seen as killing a life....but i see it from another point of view.
