The Jonas Brothers?
I'm going to use this space to rant about my latest issue. I'll start out by saying that this is coming from a girl who used to be completely in love with the Jonas Brothers. Lately, though, they've been getting on my nerves. It all started last October when the Joe/Taylor fiasco occured. I remember immediately choosing Joe's side. Near the beginning of November, around the oldest Jonas, Kevin's, birthday, I decided to write to them on Myspace. Fan-girlish, I know. But it wasn't like all their other messages from their fans. No, I actually (dare I say it), criticized them a little. But it was only out of concern.
I'm looking at it right now, seeing as I saved it, and I'm literally laughing at some of the things I said. I'm not going to copy and paste the whole thing, seeing as it is pretty long and for the interest of time, I don't think it's necessary. But here's a few highlights:
This brings us to my next topic: Miley/Selena/Taylor etc. I’m not going to go on and on about it, but I’ll say this:
Nick and Miley - WOW. It sure has been a roller coaster ride, eh? :P I’ve been reading up on you guys (out of curiosity, not to sound weird), and I’ve realized that I’ve never seen Nick smile as much as he has when he was with Miley. Young love. Sure is great, huh? :P But if you guys broke up, I’m sure there was a valid reason. One that I’ll never know, nor want to know. And as much as it kills me to admit it, I actually hated Miley for awhile, something I majorly regret. Because hate is one of the two strongest words, the other being love, and no one deserves it. I’ve grown up and come to realize that she’s human, just like all of us, and she makes mistakes. It must be hard living in the limelight. Every mistake being cast all over the world. And Nick? I’m extremely proud of you for sticking behind her through all of this.
Nick and Selena - I’m still kind of iffy if you guys ever even went out, but I’ll just say that she’s an amazing person :D
Joe and Taylor - I feel bad that the breakup is getting this much attention. Seriously, I do. I was actually mad at both of you. You, Joe, for breaking up with her over the phone (although you may have a valid reason) and jumping back so fast (which I’ll talk about later). And Taylor for making that video with the dolls (although I have to admit I thought it was funny at first) and talking about it to Ellen and such. But I’m pretty much over it. After all, we’re all human. It happens all the time, it just seems bad because you both are celebrities. We just need to get over it and move on.
Now, to the Joe and Camilla issue. Joe? Honestly, as a true fan, I’m a little disappointed in you. Only one month after you break up with Taylor, you (or somebody) invite Camilla to come to Mexico for Kevin’s 21st. It seems to me that you want a rebound. But that’s kind of harsh. For all I know you two could have been friends before or during you relationship with Taylor, and decided that you had feelings for each other after the break up. Or, for as much as I know, you two could not even be going out. But I have to say this: Joe? I 100% believe that you didn’t cheat on Taylor nor would you cheat on any of your girlfriends.
And this might hurt a little, so I’m sorry in advance. But Joe? And quite possibly Nick? I think the fame is getting to your head. You’ve realized that girls will fall at your feet and I believe you’ve started to take advantage of that. I’m not saying this to be mean, but to tell you that I’m worried. Worried that you guys are heading the wrong way. Nick? You’re 16, in high school, with all these pressures of being a teenager. And I can’t imagine how hard it is to be around all these beautiful and talented teenage girls all the time :P I just hope that you’re not getting too worked up about this. Joe? You’re 19, fresh (or kind of) out of high school. It’s a hard age. Trying to figure out where you want to go with your life and whatnot. All the pressures that are being put on you. And I’ve taken classes in school and it’s proven that the middle children (which in the whole family could mean Nick too) have the hardest time trying to adjust to life. Kevin? I think you’re old enough to realize this and that’s why I don’t believe it’s happening to you. But as Nick says, you’re the glue that holds you all together. Another reason why you need to stay strong.
That was in November, and the Jaylor (pardon the nickname) issue is still going strong. Taylor needs to just drop it, you know? Anyway, I firmly believe what I wrote in that message. And now I feel that Nick is even worse than Joe when it comes to dealing with the fame. In all honesty, I think that Nick, as well as Joe, is letting it all get to his head. He realizes that girls all over the world are falling for him and I think he likes it. I don't think he's one to cheat, nor do I think any of them are, but I'm worried. For him. Even if that sounds weird, I'm still (at least somewhat of) a fan and I want the best for them. But I think they're headed in the wrong direction.
I haven't heard their new album yet, so I can't say any of this for myself, but I've talked to avid Jonas fans and most of them are very disappointed. One of my friends said that she listened to all of the songs and only one of them was good. Sure, that's just her opinion, but I've heard a few songs and I didn't really like them either. And my good friend Mandie said that only Nick sings in all the songs. This saddens me to no end, because, honestly, Joe was my favorite when it came to their singing voices. I told my mom this and she said, quote, "What happened to the Jonas Brothers? It's like the band is now called the Nick Jonas Band or something." And I agree, at least somewhat. What ever happened to 'we're brothers and we're all equal'? I think the media has something to do with it. What do you see in the media when it comes to JB? Nick this, Nick that, with Joe in there somewhere. And Kevin's pushed to the back. Now, I may be biased, seeing how Kevin's my favorite, but I don't think it's fair.
WOW. I just realized how off-topic I keep getting. AHAHA! Oh, well.
Anyway, last thing, I promise! I was in the car on Thursday night on my way to go see Wicked and I brought along the Jonas Brothers self-titled second album. I've thought this for awhile, and my mom agrees with me, but I think that that was their best CD. And now they're just kind of going downhill. I know they're growing up and they've always said that they want their fans to grow with them, but a lot of my Jonas loving friends who are around my age, and I myself for that matter, are having our love for them fade away, slowly but surely. I never thought the day would come to me, but it is.
I'll always hold a special place in my heart for those three Jersey boys, but I think this era of my life is coming to an end.
PLEASE NO BASHING!
This is my thoughts and I don't want any rudeness about what I think or about the Jonas Brothers.
Thank you!

Yeah, I find myself not loving them as much as I did...you're right, they're definitely changing, and not for the better. I know they're human, but if I actually knew them in real life and were friends with them, I'd probably still be annoyed.

Nick is the most marketable and the most versatile, and Kevin, the least--hence the younger brother's recent and less-than-subtle 'frontman' status.
I enjoyed parts of the new album. It was a more mature sounding record, with songs that I will not be embarrassed to having playing in my car when someone asks for a ride. I believe that this is probably what they were aiming for--as 21, 19, and 16 year old guys, having a majority of yours fans at fifteen years of age or younger probably becomes tiresome. They might have reached a point where they wanted to attempt to extend their talents to an age group more near to their own. This makes sense.
It's interesting, however, to see the opinions from fans of different ages. You see them as changed by fame or possibly big-headed (perhaps 'conceited' would be a better choice of words?), when I see them as people like me: merely struggling with the pressure of being a young adult. Like someone said above me, 'they're just acting like teenage boys.' And it's true; but girls want them to stay as their own personal Prince Charming, and fail to realize just how difficult this stage of life is. And they're doing it in the spotlight, in front of hundreds of thousands of people just waiting for a hint of a false move. I can't begin to imagine what that would be like...
You're entitled to your own opinions, sweet Katelyn, just as long as you continue to remember that there are many different viewpoints out there ;D Good girl.

I'm just going to say.
Their humans. And we have no idea what goes on in their lives.
All we hear is from the media. And the media is extremely talented on making up stories.

I agree with everything you've said, though I do still have a little bit of a thing for kevin.'s smile and joseph's hair. I don't like to long-windedly speak my opinions because then everything just gets naaasty and people get very opinionated and judgemental such as this crazy fangirl below me, haha, made me giggle. Anyway, yeah, so I love you Katelyn <33

You know what, everyone has their opinion sure. But in my view, you are wrong. I love them no matter what because they show what it's like to have fame, yet live life normal. THEY.ARE.HUMAN. just like you. So deal with it, and accept the fact that they are normal boys too.
Long live Jonas!
Hailey Jai, June 14th, 2009 at 05:32:25pm
You know, you are right.
It's sad. I have to admit, it's a bit depressing to see what they've become in such a short time period. The whole "Jaylor" thing was way out of hand. Though I am, however, a "Team Taylor" person, she did go a bit overboard with the video about Joe's Camp Rock doll and a Barbie doll. But Joe, I'm disappointed.
Camilla is clearly not the right girl for him. She's older and has been around the block, if you catch my drift. Honestly, I think she's one of the causes of his ego rising. In my opinion, Joe has become the one that needs to get back to his roots.
Kevin, God, I love him dearly. If it's one thing about Kevin, he is 100% FOR THE FANS and he's happy, and probably the wisest one. He has a girlfriend who ISN'T famous, which is the best choice. He always wear a bright smile on his face and I admire him so much for his humbleness.
And now Nicholas. As much as I want to make myself believe that he is still humble and down to earth, fame is getting to him. This whole 'Niley' thing is going to ruin them because that is all you're going to hear on TV, radio, etc. But if he's smart, he'll take it slow and be careful with his decisions.
About their album: It's About Time, their debut album, will ALWAYS be number one. Sure, they didn't write all the songs, but it was them. It was the songs that made us became fans in the first place. And now.. I don't even know. I've listened to Lines, Vines, and Trying Times and I have to admit that I'm disappointed. Change, change, change, that's all they care about, when truth is they don't need to change.
Above all, I want our old Ed Hardy, Converse-wearing, Jersey boys back.
avec amour, June 14th, 2009 at 05:13:05pm
Okay so I'm going to say that I agree with time.standing.still. and Audrey T. Time.standing.still. because everyone IS entitled to their own opinions so power to you. But I agree with Audrey T. even more, because honestly, they ARE just teenage boys. Personally, I do think that fame has been getting to their head, but really? Who are we to judge? I mean, we don't personally know them. I love them to death, especially Joe as almost everyone knows haha but I am FAR from any of their number one fans, and even THEY, whoever they may be, don't know them like that. Being fans does entitle us to have our own opinions about them, but having fan fictions and stuff about them doesn't give us the right to think we know them at all. And personally, I think that writing fan fictions really gives you a smaller perspective of how they should be. You want them to be perfect for the role you put them in, whether they are the knight in shining armour, or the best friend in the world. And in reality, the stories we write, they're JUST stories. The boys in our stories aren't the real deal. The stories aren't real life. And nobody is perfect. Just because they are celebrities or we loved them doesn't mean THEY are perfect.
I think their first album It's About time was the best one. And the second would have to be close behind it. But A Little Bit Longer is good too. They're growing as artists, and it's noticeable and actually not bad. But I think the two biggest differences between their albums is that we're getting older AND their initial fad wave is wearing off. Face it, have the people that liked them liked them because either a) they're hot or b) their friends like them. And it's been a while now. I started liking them in like 2005/2006 when I saw them at a mall concert. And maybe the obsession for people is wearing off. I don't think it's ONLY because of how they've been acting. Because they've been acting as teenage boys.
firefly;, June 14th, 2009 at 06:07:46am
I'm going to be honest, Katelyn. I have to somewhat disagree with some of your opinions. And I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and such, but I just want to get this out there.
Sometimes the media only shines their light on the bad things celebrities do, because it's more fun to make fun of them than to show what good they actually do. I'm pretty sure of this because of the whole Miley Cyrus thing last year with the vanity photos and such. The media only show's people's bad sides, because the media gets more hits and money that way, and a lot of them honestly think it's funny when good people mess up.
I've had personal experience with that one. Not necessarily with the media, but with my own best guy-friend.
And with the whole "Nick singing the whole album" thing, maybe that's their choice. Maybe they want to show more of Nick now that he's getting older. Or maybe they're just changing up their sound to open up to a wider variety of audiences. Being a muscian myself, I can understand why they might want to do that.
And even if they've been making a lot of mistakes lately, who doesn't make a lot of mistakes? Like a lot of people have been saying lately, humans make mistakes, and we're all humans.
However, I have wondered about quite a few things that they've been saying and doing lately. But just like you, I'm just voicing my opinion.
I hope you don't consider this bashing.
time.standing.still., June 14th, 2009 at 12:48:48am
Hmm... I don't think they really care what their fans think of who they date to be completely honest.
I felt it was wrong how Taylor reacted, but, at least she was real about it. She was hurt and wasn't even going to bother to hide it. I kind of give her credit for that, even if it was a little childish and immature. But as for actually taking sides... when it comes to celebrities I don't take sides because, well, who really cares? It's not my life it's theirs.
But like others have said, they're humans. You're not going to agree with every decision they make, they might make mistakes, does that mean you should like them any less if it's their music you really like? No, I don't think it should.
Your.Pink.Diary, June 14th, 2009 at 12:10:13am
I love Kevin. He's the only sane one around. If I was a little younger, maybe about 23, I'd probably have a crush on him (well...I have a crush on him now..but..)

I miss the old Jobros. :[
Personally, I love It's About Time the best, then the self-tittled album, then A Little Bit Longer. I see a trend forming. :/
I'm losing my love for them too, just because I whole-heartedly agree that fame might be getting to their heads. Nowadays I really only like Frankie. x]
But yeah. I miss the days of Mandy and Year 3000. I miss them a lot.
sky lark., June 13th, 2009 at 10:58:02pm
I was going to comment seperately on each part of your journal, saying I agreed with this or that or the other, but as I kept reading I realised that you're thinking exactly like me. So I agreed with the entire thing. I used to be so crazy about them. My bro actually started me off liking them - he had the It's About Time CD that he got for Christmas and I liked listening to it. Then I got A Little Bit Longer and loved that, then the second self-titled (I think...it's the gold one, right?) and liked that. Now it just seems that they're totally focused on girls and breakups and hookups and whatever.
I mean, these three sweet boys from back in 2005 or whatever don't even exist anymore. Now it's all girls, emotions, breakups. I loved their songs like "Just the Way We Roll", "Dear God", and "Time for Me to Fly". Speaking of the last one, I have the Nick version and I listen to it all the time and wish he would show that side of him again. I want them to go back to normal. I want them to go back to what the fans from the start knew them as.
They used to be my favorite band. Now I can hardly stand looking at them.
Good job for writing this journal. I can only hope that the JB's read your message and got a little bit of a wakeup call. I mean, even with the relationships. It's kind of ticking me off that Taylor's carrying on and on about it and also that Joe just bounced back that easy. I think they need a reality check.
And poor Kevin. The sane one gets ignored >.>
Tomi., June 13th, 2009 at 10:35:32pm
I think an important thing to remember is that you don't know every detail of their personal life, and you don't know these 'other girls' personally. You have no right to lecture on what is more than likely just speculation, or rumours.
Big Maggie., June 13th, 2009 at 10:22:55pm
I'm definitely not the Jonas Brothers' no.1 fan, but I think it's important that people remember that they're not perfect. Never was, and never will be. Despite all the fame and all the praise and all the hype (especially regarding the whole 'purity' stuff), they're just teenage boys. They're young and they're going to make mistakes. Personally, though I don't agree with everything they've done, they haven't done anything that any other boys their ages haven't done or wouldn't do. Doesn't make it right, but I think they're getting so much flack for doing normal boy things. They're growing up. They will change. And, really, the things they do in their personal lives (like every other celebrity) really is their personal business and I think that everyone else should just but out. Because, like every other celebrity, we don't know what's going on behind closed doors, and we only know what we're told.
And that goes for all celebrities, especially young celebrities. I think I use the same argument when reffering to Miley Cyrus and Lindsey Lohan and whoever else. It's their personal lives and what they do off screen/off stage is really none of our business.
