Let's talk music. Old school Green Day and Good Charlotte. Not to sound elitist... [What does your room say about you?]
When I was at my parents' house last night, I found the remote that goes to my iPod speaker system. Oh, joy of joys! I've been sitting in my room and listening to music since I got home. I'm all mellow now; it's nice.
I've taken to listening to Green Day, of late. It's so weird. I haven't just hung out in my room and rocked out to them since middle school. I'm getting all nostalgic about it, too; I remember driving around in a friend's truck for almost an entire summer, just listening to every single song from "Dookie" over and over and over again until we were sure that the entire town was sick of hearing it through the open windows. (I think that was after "American Idiot" came out, but we were never much for it - he and I both really loved "Dookie" the most.) Then, I dunno...they just became one of those bands I grew out of. I'm not really feeling this new album (yet, anyway; it still has time), but it's just nice to hear them again.
Next up: I think I might take a listen to the first two Good Charlotte albums again, too. God, they were so good back then. And, absolutely not to "knock" on any work that came after that, but I just have not been feeling that band since that third album came out. Chelsea, one of the roommates, and I have had lengthy discussions about this, and we just don't understand what happened there. I mean, it's good for bands to experiment, but it only pays off if the end result is...good. I dunno. I was such a fan, when those first two albums were out and about. I kind of miss that. They were one of the first bands I ever saw live; I went with a friend to see them a bit after their second album came out. Pretty good live show! Haven't seen them since, though I don't know if I'd want to. Eh.
I'm not a musical elitist. Honestly, I'm not. I just like certain sounds, and sometimes...it's odd, but some bands change their sounds, and maybe, in my personal opinion, it's to a sound I don't really like as much. It's all personal perspective, though. I've been an MSI fan since I was just a kid, and their sound has changed a bit over the years (and you'd be hard-pressed to deny that) but I still enjoy them; new music, older music, oldest music - it all differs, but it's all still enjoyable to me. Same with MCR - to say that their sound didn't change with "The Black Parade" would be ludicrous, but I still enjoyed the album. Perhaps not as much as I did their first two albums (which is why I remain excited over the prospect of this going-back-to-their-roots business I'm hearing about with the new album), but even though it was a new sound it was still good to hear.
All good bands change at least a little, over time. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes it's not, but I think it's a worthwhile pursuit nonetheless. If bands didn't experiment, then each album would be the same, they would be boring, and no one likes that.
*That's great, if you happen to disagree completely with anything or anything I have to say here. But there's no need to be hostile about it, so don't even try. I've had Green Day fans jump down my throat for saying that I just don't like the newest album as much. Honestly, people. Just because it's your favorite doesn't mean everyone else has to worship it. So don't even start; I'm not even going to debate something that's 100% trivial opinion, I'll just delete comments.

Speaking of MSI, I'm just going to leave this here:

I got my new camera today! Finally; I've had it in layaway forever. I'm still "breaking it in," but I like it quite a lot. More mega-pixels than my last camera, and a bazillion more tools and lens options than that one had, too. True, this camera is not pink, and that's...a disappointment, but it might be for the best. (Whenever I took my last camera to shows, band dudes would always make fun of its color. It was very hurtful. Er. To the camera.)
I also just rearranged my room so that everything that needs to be plugged in is actually near an outlet, so I decided to document the momentous event of my room being clean, for once (mostly because I know it won't last long and I want photographic evidence of it):
Click pictures to view bigger sizes.

The view from the door. I need to vacuum, I know. And my futon actually isn't very low-down to the ground; it just looks like it is, for some reason...oh, and the spiral is a portal that leads to the next room (Becca's bedroom). I've yet to decide if she's keen on the idea.

My record player, iPod dock, and cat. Also known as: the main reasons for my continuing sanity, and feeling of at-home daily comfort.

The view from the futon. Yeah, my room is tiny. But hey. It's green, and it's mine.

My incense knickknacks and paraphernalia, on top of my book case. (Sandalwood is my favorite scent.) That's also my diploma, though I blurred out the name of my high school simply because I'm a bit paranoid about Internet privacy, and all that.
I also got a new pet today! A former co-worker just moved out of her apartment and into a relative's house, and she can't have her hamster there, so she gave it to me - along with the cage, a lot of food, and a million toys because the thing was spoiled rotten. Lo and behold, when she handed it over I discovered that her hamster is a panda hamster - the same as the one I already have, Beatrice!
The new hamster was named Pongo by said previous owner, even though it's a girl hamster. Still, since Beatrice's full name is Beatrice Lorraine Tonstead, I felt that Pongo needed a more respectable and dignified name. And since she probably already has a complex about having a male name, I figured I'd just stick with it - she is now Sir Frederick don James Abraham Russell II. (Or just "Sir Freddy," for short, as Chelsea said.)
Beatrice and Sir Frederick have met, though I kept the latter in her hamster ball, just in case. They don't seem to mind one another, at least. (Click for photographic evidence.)

That is an awesome shade of green. Your room may be small, but if it's got what you need in it, then it's complete, the way I see it.
Green Day have some really great albums, but I definitely do come back routinely to the great album that was "Dookie". I'm stoked to have finally gotten a hard copy of it, so I can hear it without my iPod.
Good Charlotte...can't say I've listened to enough of their music to hold an opinion yet. I will, eventually.

I don't know what happened with "Good Morning Revival"; that was just weird. "The Chronicles of Life and Death" sounds pretty, but is really different from their first two albums. I will always love old school Good Charlotte; pre-Hilary Duff Good Charlotte. Listening to their first ablum and then listening to their last, the sounds are completely different. Joel is a freakin' spaz with his taste.

Though I do LIKE 21st Century Breakdown, I like their older stuff a lot more.
Very nice room, by the way. I especially like the color of the walls. Mine are sky blue from when I was seven.
Berytni., October 14th, 2009 at 01:31:22am
I love your room. ._.
yo., October 14th, 2009 at 01:27:32am
I understand what you say about bands changing. I used to really love Anti-Flag until they started to get uber preachy with being all liberal. It's like, okay I believe in some of those view but lately it seems like that's all they sing about. I prefer a lot of their older songs because of this, but I still like some of their new things.
I love the color of your room. My walls are this beige color. I think it's gross, my mother loves it. If I could, I'd have my walls a lavender color.
Spaztastic, October 14th, 2009 at 01:18:51am
I love the green of your walls. And I like the bookcases.

v Man, they were just on a break for like, four years. XD. Though I do get what you mean. It's when bands take political issues and get...preachy...about them, that it gets to be a bit much. They have to learn to balance it out so it's not overkill. My favorite band, Rise Against, is very political, but they're also careful about when and where and how often they expose us to their personal beliefs when in correlation to the music, too. I've always loved that about them.
Jinxeh, October 14th, 2009 at 01:01:14am
Green day,
well, i think they need to take a little break, you know?
they are just making their money by still cracking jokes about Bush.
it was funny the first twelve times >.>
i think that alot of their songs have the same rhythm =/
MGMTismyfundrug, October 14th, 2009 at 12:57:34am
I was never that into Green Day.
:P
I know a few of their songs, and they're pretty good, but... Blah. I just never took an interest to them.
Cute room.
Sniffing Sharpies., October 14th, 2009 at 12:55:17am
Nice room...I love your Cry Baby poster, my friend has the same one and I always wanna steal it. :P
MaryJulianna, October 14th, 2009 at 12:52:35am
I love Good Charlotte. They really got me into music. I have their first two albums but I've been unable to by the third so can't really judge on its contents.
I share a room with my older sister. It's trashed to say the least.
England's Dreaming, October 14th, 2009 at 12:51:05am
I've been listening to a lot of Green Day lately also. Mainly because of the return of my misplaced copy of International Superhits.
Oliver Sykes., October 14th, 2009 at 12:49:08am
Uggh, you stupid music hater! Green Day's new album is AMAZING. The best EVER. It you ever say anything other than that I will SPORK YOU!
Did I scare ya? No, okay.
I wasn't a big fan of American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown. And I've never been a Good Charlotte fan. >.>
My room is clean too. o.O Maybe I need photographic evidence as well. ><
