I want you to suggest stories that I can read - but there's a condition. [My Halloween, with pictures. Zydrate comes in a little plastic syringe...]
I've decided to try something a little different, when it comes to story recommendations and suggestions on this site. Every time someone makes a journal and asks for story recommendations, the only thing that comes of it is everyone recommending their own stories (sometimes even if they don't remotely fit the criteria that the journal-maker listed).
Not that I can really condemn the behavior, since I do the same thing, but that's not what this is about anyway. What I want to see, instead, are stories that have struck a chord with other people; people other than their authors. Know of a story you didn't write, but think is just the bee's knees? Then I want to hear about it.
Though, of course, things I'm not interested in reading about:
— FBR bands / associated bands (Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Cobra Starship, Paramore, etc.). I'm just not a fan, so I wouldn't find them enjoyable anyway.
— Twilight fics.
— Vampire stories in general, unless they're truly, amazingly unique and original. Vampires are just rather played out right now, otherwise.
— No blatant Mary-Sues. For the love of god...
— If it's a bandfic, and real-life wives / girlfriends are bashed in it, or made out to be these two-dimensional b*tches that only exist for the sake of being disliked by the readers...yeah, just no.
That's really about it. Otherwise, I'm up for almost anything, whether it's fanfic, bandfic, or original fiction. Bring it on, yo (as long as you didn't write it).
Also, links are awesome, since it's difficult to search for users by name, and the story title search doesn't always work.

I had a pretty good Halloween! I had to work from 2:00 - 8:00, but it went by pretty quickly, all things considered. We got to dress up, and so I went in my Freddy Krueger costume. K showed up in all pastel colors, with a tutu and white tights and a little pink corset, and glitter and flowers everywhere, and with wings. I didn't get it, at first, until she pranced through the doors and exclaimed, "I'm a pretty little princess!" Fairy princess, I discovered, as she wrote on her name-tag. (My name tag said "Freddy.")
My store is really big in the "community involvement" thing, so we participated in the trick-or-treat circuit for the neighborhood kids. We had a coloring table, face-painting, we gave away candy and had the televisions set up so they could watch a Scooby-Doo movie, and we even had a backdrop set up so we could take pictures of the kids in their costumes, which we printed out in-store and gave to the parents for free.
We were a little short-staffed, so I was running around most of the stations all day, helping out where I could. I was at the coloring table first, then I took over the picture-taking, then I went up front to blow up balloons and pass them out. The kids really liked my claw, and kept trying to grab at it.
Some of those kids were so cute, too! One couple brought in their baby son, and he was dressed like a skunk. He was so freakin' cute. I don't even like babies, and I wanted to steal this one and raise him as my own. I took one look at him, and my biological clock began to tick; that's how adorable this kid was. I had to stab my ovaries back into submission with my Krueger claws before they could leap out of my sides and kidnap the kid themselves.
K got a lot of pictures from the day on her own camera. Somewhere on the Internet now, there is a photo of a pastel-colored fairy princess strangling Freddy Krueger from behind with a chain.
I met Caitlin back at home, along with one of Caitlin's work friends...I think her name was Ashley...and we went off to A-Town for her sister's Halloween party. It's a rather long drive, and by the time we got there it was almost not even Halloween anymore, but everything was still in full-swing. I'm glad I made myself go, even though I wasn't feeling very social by the time I got home from work. I met some interesting people, made some new friends, and just had myself a good time.
Caitlin and her sister both went as Genterns (from "Repo! the Genetic Opera") and her sister had made "Zydrate" for everyone to drink. It was all so clever; J is a biologist and works in a lab, so she got a bunch of big syringes from there, took out the needles, and filled them with with a vodka and blue Kool-Aid mixture that tasted absolutely delicious. The entire night, Caitlin wouldn't let me drink any unless she was the one to "administer" it.
And, for those of you who haven't seen "Repo!" and have no idea what Zydrate is: click. And yes, that is Paris Hilton.
I have pictures from the night, but don't feel like re-hosting them anywhere. They're all on my Twitpic if you really want to see them.
So, how was your Halloween?

Anything by bright eyes. She's my favorite writer on this site; seriously. It's all original and beautifully written.

This story is absolutely unlike anything I have ever read, and with editing I could honestly see it on a bookshelf in any book store. I'll never forget reading this.

I don't have any stories to suggest. But! I do have to say this:
"If it's a bandfic, and real-life wives / girlfriends are bashed in it, or made out to be these two-dimensional b*tches that only exist for the sake of being disliked by the readers...yeah, just no."
I just had a conversation about that with my friend. She's a huge fan of fanfics -- I'm more of an original story person, but that's besides the point. She was talking about this story she read on some other site and how it, like many others, bash the famous guy's girlfriend. I really hate that. Are people seriously that jealous that they can't have the guy? Maybe there's a different reason behind the bashing, though.
I also hate things like when Gerard Way got married and some of the hardcore fangirls were pissed. Be happy for him, even if you don't like his wife (I forget her name, I just know she's in MSI). It's just rude to be mad at him for loving someone and marrying them.
/Rant.
