Off-track: Costumes, Holidays, and Philosophy
Today I was watching commercials for Thanksgiving ham and Christmas layaway, and the truth finally settled in. Another October, dead and gone. Of course, I was Buttercup, greenest and toughest of all super five-year-olds. But while eating candy with my friend Michelle, I decided I will create the costume "The Mad Fatter." Exciting? No. Annoyingly punny? Very.
I love holidays. Veterans day is this Wednesday, and our school gets Monday off! Then there's Thanksgiving, then Christmas... Everybody knows the truth. We love Jesus and all those people that died and fought in the wars and stuff, but what it's really about to us is that we presents and days off. It's just how it is. We can't help it, but if we didn't get those things, we wouldn't really care about presents! Ok, yes I admit it, there are some unorthodox uber-christians who love to believe that all they care about is Jesus, and how he was born and all that jazz. I love Jesus, he's like.... God. ;) Fine. You got your way of holiday spirit, I got mine. You can go to church while I sleep-in, I'm perfectly ok with that.
And philosophy. Ok guys, here's where I need some help. For one of my stories, there's a character who loves to think about her significance as a person and existence and all those things. What if we're just a speck of dust? What if we don't really exist? What if right now, you're just dreaming and the last few years of our lives were just an illusion? Philosophy ain't my forte, and I only think about it while watching House. (It's ok, Chase. I'll make sure the cops won't get you.) Help me out!!
Thanks for reading my off track ;)
