The Last

The Last

The nights wind was fresh and the sky, as clear as blue crystal. Sakurako was staring at the sky for many hours that night, threw her bedroom window. Wondering if her questions were going to be answer today or will silence over come wondering thoughts yet again. She was thinking about all the good times she has had with Aki, and wondering how many more will there be. She loved Aki with all her heart and wanted there to many more days with him.
Aki and Sakurako have been going out since the eighth grade. It's now five years later and they're in the 12th grade planning to go to the same college together.
Ring....Ring....
Sakurako heard the phone ringing the background. Reaching over to the phone, she hesitated for a moment. Then picked it up slowly.
"Hello?"
"Hello. How is my love doing?" Aki said on the other line.
"Oh, hey. I was hoping it was you. We're still up for tonight, right?" Sakurako said about to put on her boots.
"Sorry babe. I have to hang with a some of my friends tonight, that's okay with you right?"
Sakurako didn't believe what she was hearing. He never forgot - never. Aki never forgot our anniversary; it's been five years. And he forgot. Sakurako thought vigorously.
"You know you've been avoiding me for a week and a half now. I said I want to spend time with you. You say I have to do something with my family. I see you in the hallway at school, you walk past me. You know what I'm going for a walk. I bet you don't even remember what today was, I love you."
"Wait, Sakurako."
Though before he could say anything else, Sakurako hung up the phone.
(5 hours later)
Aki reached home, around Midnight only to find I basket with a note and photos inside. Aki picked up the basket and started reading the note.
I'm sorry my love for hanging up on you on the phone. I hope you had fun. Happy 5th Anniversary my dear.
Aki's heart sunk to the realization that he forgot their Anniversary. Aki opened the door to his house, putting the basket on the table, and then slowly sitting down in the dinning room chair. Aki knew Sakurako was crushed and now could feel her pain as well. Reaching for the photos, Aki heart started to shatter.
Ring....Ring...Ring...
Aki heard his cell phone ring, but did not want to answer it. Reaching for the phone, a cold sensation over came Aki's body. Though he did not know what it meant. He looked at the phone and noticed it was Sakurako's older sister.
"Hello."
Hi, Aki. Um. Sakurako was going to drop off a basket to you and on got for a stroll. Did you receive it?" Sanako said seeming highly upset.
"Yes. I did. What wrong?"
"I just received a phone call from the hospital saying Sakurako got hit by drunk driver."
"What? Oh no. Can you pick my up, please?" Aki said, his voice filled with fear.
"No problem. I'm on my way."
(20 Minutes later)
Aki and Sanako reached Sakurako's room only to find her laying there doing everything in her power to stay alive. Aki couldn't help but shedding tears.
Aki walked in the room trying to wipe away-unwanted tears. Sakurako turned her head to his and smiled.
"Hey there." Sakurako said.
"Hey. You look beautiful." Aki said putting a smile on.
Sakurako laughed and said "Thank you for trying."
"How do you feel?" Aki asked while sitting down on the hospital bed.
"I'm great now that your here with me." Sakurako said with a smile.
"I love you." Aki said tears running down his face.
"I love you too. Will you lay next to me please?" Sakurako asked Aki.
Aki nodded and lay in Sakurako arms.
"I will never let go of us. I will never forget about what we shared. Happy 5th Anniversary my sweet." Sakurako said and drifted to sleep.
Aki looked at her with dread, hoping that things would turn for the better.
(4 hours later)
Aki awoke from his sleep, with a smile knowing he was lying right beside his love. Aki look over a Sakurako and noticed there was a letter addressed to him. He stared at it for a moment and noticed, she wasn't breathing. Emptiness over came his heart, as he came to the realization. She had died.
"Sakurako? Sakurako please my love wake up. I love you; you know that wake up for me. Don't leave me, please my love." Heavy tear broke through this heart as it felt like he was slowly dying himself.
"Someone help me!! Please!" Aki screamed.
The nurse came and Aki took the letter and held it tight. Though, it was too late for saver. She was gone. Aki went into hallway and opened the letter.
My dearest Aki,
You are my heart, my soul and hope,
I will always be here for you and watch from afar,
I love your smile the way it would light up my world with it,
Your touch - as soft as silk, and you kiss as sweet as you,
I will wait for you my love,
Though I do not want you to wait for me,
Live your life to the fullest,
And when that day is set for you,
You can return back to me,
Just know I love you with all of me,
For I am yours and seeing you smile one last time was enough to bring me peace,
To my love, will you never forget us?
Sakurako
Aki looked threw the door as they pulled the white sheet over her head. Aki fell to his knee and began to cry. His was broken and his mind lost. He pulled the photos from him back pocket and spread them out on the floor. Sanako sat next to Aki also crying.
"She's in a place where dreams are real." Sanako said.
Aki stared at the pictures and said, "I won't forget her and I can't live without her. Though I will stay alive and life for her and myself. That is the promise I make, I'll miss her so much." Aki said trembling.
"I know you will." Sanako said.
As morning came and sky filled with crisp blue skies and white cotton clouds. Though sadness was the only thing felt.
"Goodbye my love. Sleep tight." Aki said kissing her on her forehead. "I will wait for the day we met again, I promise you."
