The Opposite Of Evil
Numb
Sapphira paced her room nervously.
She didn’t want to eat, drink or socialise.
Especially as there was a big function that night and she knew she’d have to go. Have to endure Felix, flirting with other girls.
Her bedroom door had been locked for three days now. No men were allowed up here, so even if Felix had tried to see her, he wouldn’t have made it to her tower.
She didn’t even let Sylvia pass on the message.
She was so depressed.
“Right,” she sighed, “I’m not going to the stupid party- I’ll just watch from my tower, like Rapunzel, except without the long hair.
“They can’t force me to do anything I don’t want to do, not now, not ever!”
She smiled at her plan, knowing how her father would hate it.
She opened the double doors that led onto the balcony and positioned herself onto a chair, ensuring she had a perfect view of the entire party.
Now all she had to do was sit, and wait…
Felix rushed to button his shirt. He was late for his Father’s party. He didn’t remember what it was for, but he knew that Sapphira was expected to go.
‘Maybe I could ambush her and shove her into a dark corner and-’
‘NO! That’s the old Felix talking!’
‘Oh yeah, and you are?’
‘I’m the new Felix.’
‘Well where did old Felix go?’
‘Oh he’s in there, but I fight him off.’
‘Oh… okay, thanks.’
Felix felt confused. He hadn’t talked to his inner Felix in a long time.
It was nice to know he still could.
Felix looked at the clock and sighed as he grabbed his jacket and ran down the steps to the garden where his search for Sapphira commenced.
Sapphira sat staring down at the party.
It was odd that she could see so clearly, so far away. Her parents told her that she was a lucky girl, as they had always worn glasses. Now she suspected a different reason for her perfect vision. If she really was one of the chosen ones, then wouldn’t she know by now. Was this God’s subtle way of showing her she was special?
She watched as guests entered.
She watched as Felix swept in, looking devastatingly gorgeous.
She watched him like a religion. He fascinated her. He surprised her.
Instead of flirting with cheap sluts, he looked for her. Well she was sure it was her he was searching for…
She watched his expression when her father announced that she would not be attending.
It broke her heart to see him like that.
She leant over the edge of the balcony to get a better look. Felix had wandered into a secluded spot and it was more difficult to see him.
She stretched her flat stomach across the ledge and tried with all her might not to tremble.
She was suddenly aware of how high up she was…
It all happened in a matter of seconds. It was like; she turned from solid to total liquid. She slipped through the cement like she wasn’t there anymore and Sapphira’s delicate body crashed into the party scene below.
The guests flocked to the scene, screaming. Felix didn’t understand what was happening so by the time he got to the front of the crowd, he felt sick.
“Get out!” he screeched, alarming the crowd who backed away from him as he knelt by Sapphira.
Even if they had tried, the guests would not be capable of breaking the spell that was Sapphira and Felix combined.
A power greater than love.
Felix knelt by Sapphira and lifted her head.
There was no blood to be seen anywhere.
It didn’t even seem like there was any damage.
No wounds to be seen. That couldn’t be right.
But then he remembered, ‘They were not human…’
Sapphira momentarily shone a bright white before returning to her normal shade.
“What’s going on?” screamed Sapphira’s father, trying and failing to break through the protective shield of Felix’ power.
“Stay back!” Felix growled as he cradled Sapphira in his arms before whispering, “Don’t die, don’t die.”
“Felix,” she whispered, wiping the tears that ran down his cheeks.
“How are you alive?” he whispered, astounded.
“I don’t know, magic?” she giggled as Felix eased her onto her feet to the gasps of the crowd.
They thought it was incredible. A miracle. That she had been awoken from the dead; but they didn’t know about the protection that ran through hers and Felix’ veins.
Felix took Sapphira from the crowd’s views and guided her into the castle where no one could get to them, so they could talk about the strange things that was happening to them…
