The record companies do just want money.
And from people who probably don't have it.
I mean come on, is a solo mother really going to have THAT much money? I think not.
If I download, I download a few songs off an album to preview them... then if I like what I hear, I'll go and buy said album. If I don't like what I hear, well I'm saving myself $30 and a lot of wasted time.
Most of the time, I'll buy my songs off iTunes or other download sites... other times I'll get them off friends who send them to me to 'check out'.
I don't see why the companies would make the prices so damn high. Sure, it maybe to prove a point... but not everyone listens.

I agree that it's wrong to download illegally, but the fine seems unreasonable. Charging for the price of a song is one thing, but thousands of pounds per song is a bit over the top.

Doesn't $150,000 for willingly downloading a single file seem a bit harsh?

It sounds to me just like an excuse for those companys to get more money.

So many people download music, if you're going to sue one person...might as well sue the billions of other people who download. And you'll find the artists and companys still get a lot of money from the royalties, tours, live shows, merch, and many people still buy the albums. If I really like a band, I'll buy their album.

Wow. My dad uses a flie sharing site, and whenever I ask for a bit of money for a CD, he's all "YOU CAN GO DOWNLOAD IT ON eMule!"

He's downloaded like a gazillion songs already ><
