I want to show this article to SO many people. Sheesh.

I really liked this article. Not only was it well-written, it was thorough. It addressed an important issue and covered it completely, complete with explanation for each point raised. I also think that it was very un-biased, which I think is important in a writer.

Finally!

Emo was a term used to describe live performances in the D.C. area and was short for emotional hardcore and emcore. Rites of Spring is a real emo band, although Sunny Day Real Estate has some emo characteristics, but is more indie.

I would be labeled emo by my appearance although I have very few of the characteristics. I’m a really unique person and truly there is no label to classify me. Unless people come with chicken, noodles, or broth, we shouldn’t be labled. It’s really stupid.

The word originated in 1985 so the way it was used back then is the acual meaning.

Like this article. I've never really understood the whole "emo" thing. It seems like it was just running in circles before it fell into the clique scene. I have friend who's "emo," but he's a prat and thinks he's God's gift to all lesser mortals. He won't answer my questions and calls me a "poser." I tell him to go cut himself some more to nurse whatever inner-hurt is making him such an a**hole.

You know, somebody told me I was emo and must cut myself because I like Green Day. Haha
It was totally funny.
This whole 'emo' wave that's taking over is really starting to irritate me. It's honestly a bunch of people trying so hard to be non-conformists that they all ended up conforming to this 'emo' style\culture.

Not saying I don't label, I mean, everybody does, even if you don't notice. True, labels are better left for the grocery store, but I don't think we can really help the fact that we're gonna be judged no matter what.

It's well written but the fact that all this labelling is still going on really grinds my gears.
To be honest i now couldn't really give a crap as to what people label me as, they can go ahead and do it. Call me emo, goth whatever, i label other people. Everyone does it, it's human nature to do it.

That was awesome. Best description of emo I've heard so far. And for Dae, the bands that were labeled as not emo are under stuff like alternative rock, techno, rock, metal, stuff like that.
