Yeah, I've noticed it as well...isn't there a rule about tagging things as genres they arent? I'm not even too hot on fanfictions, it feels kinda awkward reading about people who actually exist.
It's just really tough to find a decent story 'cause of this...

See, if I write a story with any celebrities or existing people in it, I automatically label it as fan fiction to be safe. It irritates me as well.

I think the definition of fan fiction is when you take a diegesis (readymade universe) and twist it for yourself. So technically, that fiction with bands ISN'T fan fiction. Or at least only in the sense it is probably written by a fan of the band.

Well original fiction could involve a celebrity but the ones you see when you go on the OF section are there because the tweenie tarts writing the damn things tick all of the categories so there's a better chance that their tripe will get spied by a bunch of brainless bimbos who think if they can read than anything is possible.

It annoys me a lot because I don't LIKE fan fiction. No, that's unfair. I don't mind it floating around in the world. As long as it's properly labelled and not where it's not supposed to be!

I think we're all more than a little irritated by that. I don't know if people honestly don't understand the difference between original and fanfiction, or if they're just pretending to be stupid.

Yeah, I noticed that. It got to a point where I've just given up on reading stories on here. Sad, because I'm sure there are some great writers, but I have no interest in fanfiction and good stories are hard enough to find without having to sift through inappropriately-labeled genres.

People do it to get more readers.
It does get annoying to see a fanfiction in the original fiction genre.
They just do it because they think it boosts their readers when it really doesn't.

I'm irritated by it as well.
I just don't understand why people don't stick with their genres, really.
