My aunt arrived at my house around 3:15 in the afternoon, and we left for the concert shortly thereafter (around 3:30), even though everything was to start three hours later. After having a leisurely dinner at a nearby diner, we headed for the venue. As we were parking our car, I saw the Green Day tourbus parked in front - and had a small fit! While waiting for the people to begin taking our tickets, my aunt took a few photos of me in front of the bus.
Then, some point later, we were told we could line up to have our tickets scanned.
While waiting in line, I was telling my aunt about Mike, and a woman a few feet away said, "Excuse me, were you just talking about Mike Dirnt?"
To which I replied, "Yes."
So then she says, "Then I have some pictures to show you of my son!"
And she pulls out this Kodak thing - and shows me about 5 photos of...Billie Joe (from the previous concert)!
By then, it hits me, and I realize just who this woman is - Billie Joe Armstrong's MOTHER!! So I tried my best to contain myself as I said, "Wait! You're Billie Joe's mom!"
And she said yes and introduced herself.
So we talked a little more and then it was time to get our tickets scanned and our bags checked, then go into the venue. The first band, Franz Ferdinand, was all right - but no one to write home about. When Green Day came onstage, you could feel the excitement. My favorite part of the concert itself was when they played King For A Day.
