Help: CSS coding

All right, I'm currently working on my profile layout for the second time and I've run into a few problems.

1: There is a huge waste of space at the bottom of the layout - just black background. How can I get rid of that? It's not my number one concern because that won't be the first place for visitors to look but it would look nicer without it.

2: I do not want my comment list. Instead I would like a simple comment button with a cheesy catch phrase, one that I can change whenever I please. How would I go about doing that?

3: I do not want my pictures or journals viewable on the main page; if people wish to see them, they would have to go to the links at the top. Again, how do I get rid of these?
