V8 Supercars Tackle Mt. Panorama, with a thrilling battle for win at the end.

The most treacherous mountain in Australian motorsport history has lived up to its name in this year’s V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000. Delivering yet another thrilling final lap to finish the grand finale.

The holy grail of Australian motorsport was on offer as fifty-eight drivers tackled the mountain that gives no mercy when it comes to mistakes – Mt. Panorama. For Will Davison and his partner Luke Youlden, the racing Gods smiled at them after Lee Holdsworth was penalised in Friday’s qualifying, moving Davison and Youlden into the top ten shootout where they qualified second. However, racing Gods are no match for the mountain as it turned on the Trading Post Falcon, sand trapped at the last corner.

As the race progressed to the 161 lap deadline, fire was on set to end Steven Johnson and David Besnard’s day. It was a hard luck story for many drivers who tackled the mountain, Cameron Waters found the wall, Dean Fiore was the third driver to be spun at the last corner and, later, many were caught off guard to oil dispensed down Conrod straight.

Again, it was the classic rivalry revived between the Toll Holden Racing Team and TeamVodafone as they battled until the final lap for their names to be listed as the 2011 Bathurst champions. Luckily, earlier, Nick Percat escaped a brush with the wall to hand the car back to his teammate Garth Tander. Later, he found himself in a thrilling battle with, new championship leader, Craig Lowndes.

Tander held on by point ninth of a second to win the race, making Nick Percat the first rookie in thirty years to win the most respected race in all Australian Motorsport.
