The Rory Gilmore Book Challenge

Being the generally awesome person that I am, I was just cruising through Pinterest the other day when my eyes feel upon The Rory Gilmore Book Challenge. In said challenge the (slightly insane) reader delves into the 250 books that Rory has ever mentioned in the show.

Now I fancy myself quite the Gilmore Girls fan. I always dreamed of being Rory. Smart, funny, a book nerd like myself. She was my hero when I was little. In fact I think subconsciously I got into journalism because of her. So, when I came across this challenge I just had to take it. I even brought a friend along with me for the ride.

So starting August 8 I will read all 250 books that Rory Gilmore does. However, I have already read 24 of said books. So here is that list.

1. 1984 by George Orwell-I read this book for my sophomore year honors English class and then again for my junior year AP Lit class. I dislike this book strongly. I love the idea behind it, but I am not a fan of Orwell's writing style.

2. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain-I read this for my junior year AP Lit class. I really like it. Also, I think it's stupid that they censored it.

3. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger- Also read this in my junior year AP Lit class. It's probably one of my favorites that I had to read for school.

4. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens-I read this in seventh grade I believe. I had to read a part of a man.

5. The Crucible by Arthur Millar-Yet another I read in my junior year AP Lit class. I also had to read the part of a man in this.

6. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes-I read this in eighth grade.

7. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald-Read this guess when...Junior year AP it class. Absolutely loved it.

8. Hamlet by Shakespeare-Read for sophomore year honors English. I don't remember if I had to read a part, but if I did it was probably a man.

9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K Rowling-Read this on my own I believe my sophomore year.

10. How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss-Of course I've read this. It's my favorite Dr. Seuss book next to Green Eggs and Ham.

11. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott-Read this for a book report my sophomore year. It literally put me to sleep.

12. Lord of the Flies by William Golding-Read this one for my sophomore year honors English class. I think it was one of my favorites that year.

13. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold-I think I read this one freshman year. I read it on my own and loved it. Also, the movie is amazing.

14. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult-I don't remember what year I read this, but it's one of my all time favorite books. Also, the movie sucks.

15. Night by Elie Wiesel-I read this for sophomore year honors English. One of my all time favorite books.

16. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck-Read for sophomore year English class. It was alright.

17. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton-Read in eighth grade. I loved it.

18. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe-I've read this a bunch of times.

19. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare-This was my first experience with Shakespeare my freshman year. I also read the part of a man in this play.

20. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne-Oh how do I express my feelings for this book. I have read it three times, eighth grade, junior year, and senior year. I hate it. So very much.

21. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd-I think I read this freshman year. I love it. Also, the movie is great. I love Dakota Fanning.

22. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger-I read this my junior year on my own. I love it. I'm afraid to watch the movie.

23. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee-Read this for freshman year honors English. It takes a minute to get into, but I like it.

24. Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom-Read for junior year AP Lit class. I love the way Mitch Albom writes. I think I slept through the movie.

Now I just have to read the other 226 books. Happy reading.
