Need Some Help with Something

How do I write about a character who uses forearm crutches? I mean, like... how would I explain them being used? I don't know how to really explain it. >< My MC has Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, and she uses them to help her be more balanced and walk better. I tried to google this many times, but I can't find any information I need... just things on arm crutches themselves instead. I don't know if you guys can give me ideas, but it would be really helpful if you could. I just want to make this story sound legit instead of pissing someone off and doing it wrong, you know?
