Mibba's Thoughts: Writing Habits

Nearly every writer has a ritual they perform before they begin writing. In this week's edition of Mibba's Thoughts, Mibbians discuss the weirdest things they do before they write.

For some reason, I tend to crack my knuckles and say "Arright, let's do this," and proceed to list when I want to have what finished. That's usually only if I'm having a hard time with what I'm writing, though.

I always have a shower before writing, I think so that I'm forced to think away from distractions. Also, I have to have a coffee next to me, regardless of whether I'm drinking it (so I don't have to worry about getting up to make one). Finally, I can't write unless my font is Georgia or Cambria size 11.

Not really things I do, but things that happen before I write:
Have a mental breakdown and cry my eyes out.
When it happens, I write.

Right now, I have a habit of putting on the song I'm going to write to, sticking it on full volume, pressing the earphones into my ears and closing my eyes, and just listening to it. I don't do anything else; I just sit there and take in absolutely everything in the song, the way it all comes together, the things it makes me think of and feel, and then I translate that over in my head to story plots and characters and have it all come together as the story, the same way the song comes together.
