Hm well it's more like the tense consistancy, stuff spellchecker doesn't pick up on. When you say "she hated" it's in past tense, but when you say "she has" later on it's in present tense. So you should either say "she hated" and "she had", or "she hates" and "she has". Sorry for being so picky ><
Oh, so are you thinking of a more fantasy element? Whatcha have in mind? Sounds like an interesting story so far - I'm curious as to how it's going to progress =)

I read your story - Ashley's Neglection. It's really good, but there's a few issues with grammar/punctuation that you might want to fix.
About the next chapter...well you've pretty much established her abusive home situation is something she lives with day in day out. Maybe something could happen to Ashley in regards to that. Maybe she runs away, maybe she gets beaten to the point where ends up in hospital...it depends on what kind of genre you're looking for. You said you were aiming at a religious theme in the author's note so...I don't know. Mabye she runs away, and eventually encounters something that changes her spirtually, then maybe somewhere down the line she meets her family again? Or she hears that her mother/father has died and goes to the funeral?
Just throwing some ideas out there xP And yeah, I actually can see her fitting the role of Ashley quite well.
