Yep, definately helps you out in the long run if you go in knowing all that. Oh and whatever the book says about bringing clothes and stuff with you...don't. You get all your clothes when you get there, including undergarmets. Just go there with the clothes on your back and maybe the DEP book thing. I made that mistake of buying a bunch of bras, socks and stuff, and ended up sending it all home, lol.

And yes, it does help knowing stuff in the book. Learn the Sailors Creed, the 11 general orders, and your chain of command. Also study the ranks for enlisted and officers. Cause in Boot you'll get asked questions like "What is your ____ general order?" or "What does a/an _____ Wear on their sleeve/collar device/shoulder board?" or "Who is ______ person?" They do those questions when you do inspections and stuff. It's not hard to learn, and when in Boot, you get a lot of time to study.

Oh, and another thing, I hope you're not too scared of needles, cause during the in-processing days, you get your vaccinations, which is like 5 different shots, including one in the butt...I hated that day....ugh...getting a COMPLETE physical exam...talk about feeling violated...but it's not so bad, after the first week or so, things settle down. Boot camp flew by for me, it felt like: BAM: P-days....wake up the next day, we're getting our dress whites on to graduate.

Haha, I actually feel ya on the bad vision. I'm 20/400. I wanna be a GM though cause I like weapons. That was the best thing about Boot Camp was livefire...I can qualify for almost any rate though cause I have a pretty high ASVAB score, and I can get a top secret security clearance too cause I have no criminal record, I impressed my Master Cheif at my command now when I talked to her, and she's hard to impress...hahaha

I work with Bachelor Housing. We work in the barracks doing room inspections, and making sure they're living up to standards, which most of them live disgustingly. I don't have a rate, but I want to strike GM. I lucked out with being undesignated on a shore command, but my command sucks, lol.

That's cool. I came in to be an MA but got dropped from the school cause I wasn't in their body fat standards. I was in DEP for a month before I went to boot camp, I wanted to leave ASAP too. A fair warning, Great Lakes, the whole Chicago area in the winter time gets pretty cold. Lol.
