There's only so much you can do to protect a friend from themself - sometimes you have to let them go to the limit so they'll see their safety net isn't there anymore and maybe if they scare themselves enough, they'll save themself but it's so hard and you've captured the pain of wanting to help the unhelpable in the raw.
