An Ode to Midnight

The Curtain of Darkness has descended
Mankind is slowly fading away.
Explorers whose grand odyssey hath ended,
Glutton with the glory of yesterday.

The cold arms of the clock drive forward
The Magic hour is close at hand
The ticking storms on, indefatigable,
As sharp as the slash of a sable.

Midnight is almost upon me-
I can feel the change in the air.
Only the beauty of the moon is still visible.
This excitement not far from despair.

I mourn for the day that is passing
I prepare for the birth just ahead
For soon shall a new day be dawning,
But I can’t yet run off to my bed.

The glory of midnight is ecstasy
This feeling of tranquillity-
The dreams of the world float around me
Nature can finally breathe free

My window is the portal to Midnight-
To my hopes and my fantasy.
I stare and I watch in pure wonder
And I think it can’t only be me.

Then I hear the chime ring
Oh, rejoice and let’s sing
For today is now yesterday,
And tomorrow... has finally begun.

I am I alone with sweet midnight?
My loving and innocent muse.
We have until you are greeted by light
When I weep at dawn’s destined break.

Our time is so tragic, to my dismay.
Farewell my transient lover
I will see you on the death of this day.
