A Poem For Aunt Jamie

I couldn’t give you
The day my respect for you
Started to fade
Into the dark of nothingness

It happened between the times
I heard and saw you drunk
Saw Gram throw the phone
To end your call once again

And they day you said
My brother was worth nothing
When you tried to turn us against
The people we love

When you told us terrible
Things from our dad’s past
Tell me, what’s the point
Of talking bad of the dead?

Or the countless times
You were the reason that I broke
The promise that I had made
To people I don’t wanna let down

Some where along these lines
My respect for you left
Though when I think back
There wasn’t much to start
