Starlit Sky

Staring up at the starlit sky
I can’t help thinking about you and I

“See that star right there?” you say
I cuddle into you on the ground we lay

“I see it,” I say smiling into you
The cool air of night not reaching through

The night was quiet save for the crickets who sing
The song of unending love that forever would ring

“It reminds me of you,” you whisper to me
The grass rippling around us much like the sea

“And that one right there,” you point to the sky
A star right above us, I smile my reply

“And don’t forget that one,” you laugh quietly
Hands intertwined together, a lock and a key

I stare at the sky filled with wonder and might
Thinking of ‘what an incredible night.’

We lay there in silence amidst the grass
And I close my eyes as the moments pass.

I feel you sit up and fidget around
Get something without making a sound.

I follow your suit and sit up too
To me everything feels so magically new.

There’s a different feel in the air as of now
The kind that makes me wonder nothing but ‘how?’

You hand me something, silver and warm
And before I can look I feel tears start to form.

“Just like the stars, I see you everywhere
You’re my day and night, the answer to my prayer.”

With tears in my eyes I hear three words so overdue
“You’re my whole world, my everything, I love you.”

I open my hand to see a star on a silver chain
This is a love I could never explain.
