Just Like Starting Over

The fires have burnt out. The city has burned down.
The ashes still sizzle with nostalgia's faint embers.
But I already cut my losses and walked off into the sunset,
Towards a better civilisation than I can ever remember.

The dawn's still fairy-light, the morning dew full of possibilities,
Peeking sunshine lightens the sky until it's a sheet of cobalt swathes;
A harsh, bitter winter froze the field of its flowers,
But now spring has come, and in its morning glory, together we'll lay.
