Cold-Hearted Man (Story of my Life)
I stared into the eyes
Of a cold-hearted man
Back when I didn't see
His cold-hearted plan
I wanted to know him
But I tried too hard
And he skittishly scattered
From my fragile heart
I was left broken
The last time for me
So I brushed myself off
And broke my heart free.
So I readied to face him
The next time we met
I'd deliver that punchline
Pay my heart it's due debt
I adjusted my glasses
Walked into the place
And got myself ready
to yell in his face
But then he turned,
Smiled, said "Hi."
And I turned and walked out
With not so much as "Goodbye!"
I couldn't handle his stare
It reduced me to tears
This was my fault
Just as I'd feared
I knew it all along
But he was easier to blame
Then to admit to myself
Then to submit to shame
So after that moment
I would never again
Look into the eyes
Of that cold-hearted man.
Of a cold-hearted man
Back when I didn't see
His cold-hearted plan
I wanted to know him
But I tried too hard
And he skittishly scattered
From my fragile heart
I was left broken
