Penny

I found myself walking,
Unknown like the dust.
Until I found a glossy penny,
Under a pile of rust.

I saved it for a sunny day,
To give to the ice cream guy.
But when the sun came out,
He said, “You cannot buy.”

So I saved it another day,
When the day was gray.
But when the day had come,
I found I could not pay!

So I walked the same old streets,
Hoping to find some petty cash.
But when I walked around the corner,
I found myself with nothing but ash.
