Ode To My Mother

One day you’ll be proud
Of everything I’ve done
One day you’ll respect
The person I’ve become
One day you’ll listen
To the words that I say
One day you’ll understand
And not look the other way
One day you’ll love
The person that I am
One day you’ll appreciate
I do the best I can

I’m not perfect
Nor strive to be
But I work hard
That’s enough for me
So I’ll thank you to turn
Time for you to leave
Maybe without you ‘round
I’ll actually believe
I am a good person
Though some choices lack
I always try my best
To keep this life on track
But my child is loved
And always cared for
Though you won’t notice
Do I care anymore?

One day you’ll notice
But I won’t be there
One day you’ll love
But then I won’t care
That day, this world
May cease and end
And that one day
Won’t happen, my friend
Your choices are made
Your words, they hurt
And I can’t forget them
Or the pain they exert
One day I’ll be able to say
Good-bye to you forever
And feelings you’ve left behind
Until that day, however
I’m left listening, weaning
To the unsaid words
And their broken meaning
The disappointment growing
Yet I expect it now
With my tolerance lowering
And there are those who trust
And believe each word I say
Their words are ones I live for
They get me through another day
So, tonight, as these tears fall
Darkness comes once again
I close my eyes and remember
No longer will you win.
