The Nightmare Lullabye

When night becomes so quiet
And all that’s heard is creaking.
Don’t open your eyes (Don’t try it!)
For the evil has started sneaking!

They sneak around and look about
To find a defenseless mind,
To turn their dreams inside out
And replace with a scary kind.

Once they find their hidden target,
They climb onto the bed,
And make a sound victims won’t forget
And sneak into their head.

Then the music begins to play,
With dark and lonely banters,
Their attention turns away
To the creature that now enters.

A sinister figure dressed in black
Cascading from head to toe.
Makes his way to go attack
Every dream’s frightening foe.

He floats above the child with fright,
Hiding in the sheets.
If he does his dark job right,
The kid will be scared for weeks!

This feels highly unfinished to me when I read it, and I know I want to write more, but for now I am posting this until I get new ideas.

I don't normally write dark poetry. This was something I was doing to expand my skills and attempt to go way out of my comfortable box on writing.

I love dreams and nightmares and I always wanted to write a story or something about how nightmares really happen. This was somewhat my idea and I may turn it into a story later. But please let me know what you think!
