How A Rose Bush Grows

Oh roses in my window,
Your petals a velvet red.
How did you get so beautiful? I wonder,
As I lay down on my bed.

Your thorns are oh-so-sharp,
What are they protecting?
Is it an important secret,
Or enemies you're deflecting?

May I someday be like you,
As I reach up towards the sky.
I'm not sure my body,
Could handle living up so high.

It's been ten years since you've been planted,
And as the stretch of time truly shows,
This is how a rose bush grows.
