We Are the Future

Suppressing sentimental emotions,
Pessimistic thoughts to dote on,
Poetry to talk to,
Words define you.

We learn,
From sanity we turn.
The grand word ‘we’ defines us all,
The society we have become together,
Breaking prejudiced walls.

How did we get here?
As I study racism, previous wars and racial discrimination
I wonder why I was so selfish, was I in state of aberration?
As I look into your eyes, I don’t see the past,
The scars are still there, but that you’ve surpassed
Those days when we couldn’t sit together, on the same bus,
Have the same elevated rank and amusing topics to discuss
We don’t realise it’s made a difference to our lives,
Because we’ve been brought up to live, not survive.
Just like they changes our lives, and were the future generation
Fought for peace, against racism, and all that discrimination
I think it’s time we made positive aims, thought the same,
Clashed depression, angst, had no shame
In all things good, we’re together for a reason
Let words define us, correctly this time.
We are the future.
