Midnight

Midnight

In the presence of a flickering moon
Peeking through the branches-
Mary Jane's pair of creased eyelids
Adorned with curled eyelashes

Stretching for the clouds above
Rusty leaves climb up the tree;
Knocking on her bedroom window
while she's asleep, while she's asleep

A sash of lightning splits the sky
A gash so deep, tears start to flow
Rinsed in its glory- the rain so fresh
Bathing the streetlights on heavy glow

Behind glass windows under her bed
Two hearts beat in black shadows
"Goodnight my dear, goodbye my dear,"
So sweet the voices of invisible ghosts
