Amaranthine
What is it like
to live forever
unfading
never dying?
Why is humankind
so fixated
on eternal life?
Why are they so afraid
of the gift
we know as death?
Why do they fear
what they
do not understand?
Why do they want
to be forever
young?
You can walk
through fire
and it will not
harm you
You can
be shot in the heart
yet still survive
You can jump
from atop a cliff
and emerge
without a scratch
You are
indestructible
or so they think
But what they
do not understand
is the pain
that accompanies
immortality
The sensation
of being trapped
in a world where
you used
to belong
The world
becomes
not your oyster
but your prison
You see everything
and live it
over
and over
again
And still they ask
What is it like
to live forever
unfading
never dying?
to live forever
unfading
never dying?
Why is humankind
so fixated
on eternal life?
Why are they so afraid
of the gift
we know as death?
Why do they fear
what they
do not understand?
Why do they want
to be forever
young?
You can walk
through fire
and it will not
harm you
You can
be shot in the heart
yet still survive
You can jump
from atop a cliff
and emerge
without a scratch
You are
indestructible
or so they think
But what they
do not understand
is the pain
that accompanies
immortality
The sensation
of being trapped
in a world where
you used
to belong
The world
becomes
not your oyster
but your prison
You see everything
and live it
over
and over
again
And still they ask
What is it like
to live forever
unfading
never dying?

This might be the start of a story. Not sure if I'm actually going to write the story or not, but I have an idea. :)
