A Bird

I wake to the sun,
To fill the world with song,
And sing all day long.

Listen real closely,
To find your favorite one,
Hold onto the sound.

Let it warm your heart,
You can just close your eyes,
Melody so sweet.

Sound not for humans,
But all creatures of the woods,
We sound the alarm.

An early warning,
Something is coming this way,
But it’s not a bear.

It’s much worse than that,
Your human machines plow through,
Destroying our home.

Killing all the trees,
To make homes for your own selves,
Not taken enough?

Kill what makes you breathe,
And soon you won't take a breath,
There's nothing to breathe.

Not only you die,
You kill the world we share,
Our only world.
