Always Second Best

Wandering behind your ethereal presence
Constantly I hide
In your amazing shadow
I can be as loud as I want
Cuss to the skies
But it will never be enough
To bring those awe-struck stares
Onto me

Sometimes I feel like somebody
Defined under my pencilings
Dancing
Glowering
Wanting to be seen
Wanting to be so effortlessly
Sexy

When I’m back again
I see the hideousness
It shows me who I really am
Not that glowering idiot
Thinking she was so
Untouchable
Wobbly giantess
That wears too much make-up
Caked-in eyes
Scary as they stare
Stature threatening
Definitely. Not. Do-able.

I am not the broadway star
However much I might
Delude
That I am worthy of
The “it”
That shine
The star quality
For as I am taking my bows
My roses fall to you

Always second-best
Even though your ambition
Was never to steal my
Shine
