Pictures

Crayons dance.
They laugh,
Showing off the drawing.
All the little people,
Twirling in pink,
Spraying blue on red,
Or jumping on round yellow.
The teacher
Bends over,
Laughs,
Lies,
And says
The picture could
Hang in a museum
Down the road
In New York City.
They laugh, too,
Ecstatic about the
Praise.
Later,
They retreat
To homes
With TV
And food
And a warm bed.
The Teacher stays,
Stapling,
The pictures hang on the walls
For everyone to see.
She grins,
Remembers the lie
Of the museum,
And realizes the truth.
