The Way I Am

I stay awake and cry all night,
Trying to find the light,
And I’m filled with fright,
Will I be alright?
Sometimes I fall in love,
And fly off like a turtle dove,
But when she comes around,
He leaves and my fantasy comes crashing down.
Sex, money, and drugs is all I hear,
And he seems to love the beer.
I’m pressured by everyone,
And they say it’s all fun,
But I know wrong from right,
And I have the courage to fight.
She’s like a Barbie doll,
All nice, pretty, and tall.
Inside though, she’s plastic,
Is her outside that fantastic?
Emotionless is how you seem,
While my emotions fall off the balance beam.
Outside, I usually smile,
But sit back and watch for awhile,
And you’ll see the tears pour,
And you can watch them all hit the floor.
Luckily, God blesses my life,
So my wrists won’t be touched by a knife.
No gun will be pressed to my temple,
I’ll smile and show my dimple.
To hold back the tears, I’ve built a dam,
And I know I’m perfect the way I am.
