Love's Addiction

Love’s Addiction

He left her broken on the floor,
This wasn’t how he was before.
He was so sweet, kind, and loving,
Never spoke angrily or resulted to shoving.
Now his punches have become his caress,
Stripping her of all she may have once possess.
He left her heart and soul constantly bleeding,
Never getting the salvation that she is truly needing.
Breaking from the outside, slowly moving in,
Everything she does now to him is a cardinal sin.
“You’re worthless! You’re dumb! I’d rather you be dead!”
Repeated over and over, from his mouth and in her head.
The thing that hurts her the most, though,
Is not his kick or fist’s blow.
It’s when his “I love you” s are sincere,
When he holds her close and treats her dear.
She’s captive by love, chained by its feel,
Losing all thought, losing what was real.
So she lays dying from his physical infliction,
Loving every ounce of pain, for that is love’s addiction.
